Chapter 18

Chapter 18 - Their First Date

After dinner Khushi retired to her room and was reliving the memorable moments of her engagement. She was feeling so lucky today, to have found a good life partner in Arnav. Although Arnav had tried his very best to make Khushi feel not guilty of accepting the wonderful gift, it was useless. She wondered how she had forgotten to buy an engagement gift for Arnav. She so wanted to gift something, but she didn't know what. She was clueless about Arnav's likes and dislikes. Khushi put her creative mind to use and made herself get lost in the thoughts, hoping that she would be able to think of a perfect gift for her fiance.
Next day after the engagement, Arnav was so engrossed in work, that he had already lost track of time. He had to recheck the final preparations of a fashion show which will be held in UK the following week. To say he was the busiest person alive on earth wouldn't be wrong. He had even skipped his lunch today, and he could here the rumbling sound of his stomach. It was nearly 6pm and he heard a knock on his cabin door.
"Who is it?", Arnav asked a little worriedly, as he was planning to leave the office in 30 minutes. But now he would be delayed again.
"It's me, Khushi", Khushi said in her sweet tone.
"Come in", Arnav said a little relieved that it was his fiancee and not any other employee.
"Hi, what are you doing here?", Arnav asked as he was surprised of Khushi's sudden visit.
"Actually, I wanted to meet you", Khushi said nervously.
"Is it something important? Because right now, I'm really busy", Arnav said while continuing his work on the laptop. Khushi felt a little disappointed by Arnav's reply.
"Oh I'm sorry. But can you at least take a minute off. I need to show you something", Khushi said, hoping that Arnav would at least be bothered to know what she was about to talk about.
"Look Khushi, I said nah, I'm really busy right now. Unless it is really something important, I hope you can wait until I call you after going home", Arnav muttered without thinking.
Khushi got angry by the way Arnav was responding, and spitted out. "You thought I would come all the way to the office, unless it was something important. You know what, damn your work. I was the idiot to think that you would even waste a second to listen to your fiancee. I'm sorry Mr.Raizada for disturbing your important work. Bye".
Khushi didn't bother to give a chance for Arnav to explain. Without wasting a second of Arnav's precious time, Khushi left the cabin.
Arnav was astonished at the way how Khushi suddenly broke out at him with anger. He felt that the way he talked to Khushi was wrong. But what could he do. He was under so much of stress about  the upcoming show, and to top it all his stomach worms were playing kick boxing. "What was so important that she came all the way to his office?", Arnav now gave it a thought as to why Khushi came to the office suddenly.
Khushi was furious at the way Arnav ignored her. If he was Arnav Singh Raizada, she was Khushi Gupta. She would not let this go off so easily. As Khushi was pissed off at Arnav, as soon as she came home, Khushi went to the kitchen. She took all the ingredients required to make "jalebi", her all time favourite comfort food. Rama saw that her Khushi Didi was angry. Although she wanted to know what the reason was, she knew this was not the right time. When Khushi was angry, the best thing to do was to let her calm down by herself.
Mona was relaxing herself in the living room, when she heard the sound of the door bell.
"Rama!!!!!!!!!!! Check whose at the door", Mona shouted.
Rama came running and opened the door. She opened her mouth in an "O"shape, as she was shocked to see the person who was standing in front of her.
"Who is it Rama?", Mona came towards the door, as she didn't get any response from Rama.
"Oh, Arnav Beta. Come in. Why are you standing outside?", Mona said politely.
Arnav entered the house and started to search for the person who was responsible to make him visit this house today. But she was nowhere to be seen. As soon as Arnav realized that he had done wrong by ignoring Khushi, he thought of apologizing to her. He tried calling her mobile for several times, but it straight away went to voice mail. So he thought of visiting Khushi's place and clearing the tension filled air between them.
"Auntie, where is Khushi?", Arnav asked from Mona.
"Khushi Didi is in the kitchen. She is making jalebi. Seems like she is comforting herself with her all time favourite comfort food. Someone must have really pissed her off", Rama continued as she was unaware of Mona's glare. Suddenly Rama realized that she had made the owner of the house angry. So she shut herself up.
"Why Arnav? Do you want to meet her?", Mona asked.
Arnav nodded his head, indicating a "yes".
"Rama, go and call Khushi. Tell her that Arnav has come to meet her", Mona ordered Rama.
Rama agreed and went in search of Khushi.
At first Khushi hesitated a bit, but she didn't want to let everybody in the house aware that she was angry with Arnav. So she thought of pretending to show that everything was fine between them.
Arnav saw Khushi coming towards him. He was glad that she at least agreed to meet him, without making a big fuss. But he felt that she was burning from inside, as he sensed there was smoke puffing out from her ears and nostrils. He smiled from his mind and he knew he had to try his ASR ways to make her go out with him. Yes, as soon as he realized that Khushi was upset with him, he thought the best way to make up to her was by taking her out for a dinner. In that way he would be able to get to know what was the important thing Khushi wanted to show him and also he would be able to relieve his hunger.
"Auntie, can I take Khushi outside for a dinner out today?", Arnav asked in a polite tone.
Khushi was surprised at Arnav's sudden notion. He really knew the way to make things be done according to his own accord. Khushi knew that she would have to agree to go out with him. But she made up her mind to not to give in so easily.
"Yeah sure, Beta. Khushi, go and get ready soon", Mona said to Khushi firmly.
"Ji Chachi", Khushi said, and left toward her room giving an angry stare at Arnav.
After sometime Khushi was fully ready. She had made her self comfortable wearing a black short shift dress (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/608882091_1/2012-DN242-KM-black-red-wholesale-designer-evening-free-shipping-Short-shift-dress-elaborate-metallic-beaded.jpg) and her hair was left open. She didn't want to look overdressed, although this would be their first date. She was excited, but she didn't want to show it either, as she didn't want to easily forgive him. Khushi descended down the stairs and Arnav was once again mesmerized by Khushi's beauty. It was true that she didn't wear all grand outfits, or heavy make up, but yet she looked stunning. Her open hair and and the pair of stud earrings (http://www.designerfashionjewellery.net/ekmps/shops/designf/images/black-white-diamond-white-gold-designer-stud-earrings-154-p.jpg) intensified the elegant look on her face. His gaze stopped on both her wrists. On one wrist she had worn a simple bracelet (http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4849946567641498&pid=15.1), which matched her outfit. When he saw the other wrist being adorned by the wrist watch gifted by him, he felt his heart fill with joy. Khushi realized what made Arnav's smile on his face reach the eyes. She was glad to see him happy, but she was yet not convinced to forgive him.
Both Arnav and Khushi bid good bye to Mona and left. The drive was silent as Khushi was still angry and Arnav didn't try to force a conversation as he didn't want to make her all furious again.
As soon as their journey came to an end, Khushi looked out the shutter. It was the best Chinese restaurant in town. She was so glad that Arnav had brought her to a restaurant  where they served her favourite dishes. Khushi was a Chinese food fan. But how did Arnav find that out?
They went in and the receptionist greeted both of them. A young man in early thirties came to Arnav and said, "Good evening ASR, after such a long time".
Arnav smiled and said, "Yep. Oh by the way this is Khushi, my fiancee".
Khushi said "Hello", with a sweet smile.
"Your table for two is ready. Please come", said the young man.
It was a quite cozy place. Khushi felt that this place had a romantic atmosphere, as there were so many couples around. She made herself comfortable by sitting down on the chair drawn by Arnav. She thanked him. Arnav excused and left Khushi for a while, alone. Khushi really wanted to forgive Arnav, but she still didn't want to. Because she wanted him to know, that he can't expect her to behave according to the way he wanted. Yeah, may be he was busy, but still he should have not ignored her.
The sudden ring of a mobile phone, made her gasp a little. It was Arnav's phone. He had forgotten and left his phone on the table. Khushi checked the caller ID and saw it was Aman. Therefore she thought of answering.
"Hello Sir", Aman said softly.
Khushi could feel the fear Aman had towards his boss.
"Hey Aman, it's Khushi", Khushi said in her chirpy voice.
"Oh hi Khushi, I mean Madam. Is Arnav Sir around? Aman asked in a relaxed tone, after realizing it was Khushi answering the phone.
"He is not here right now. What is it? Do you want to give him a message?", Khushi asked.
"No, no, Madam. It's just that I was worried since Arnav Sir didn't have anything since breakfast. I just wanted to check whether he ate", Aman said worriedly.
"Kya? You mean he didn't have lunch today? But why?", Khushi asked in shock and worry.
"He was so busy, that he had lost track of time", Aman explained.
"Don't worry Aman, I will make sure he eats. I'm glad that your his personal assistant. You really deserve a praise. But you should stop calling me Madam. I'm just Khushi, your fiancee's friend", Khushi said nicely.
"Thanks Khushi. I'm glad he has you now to take care of him. Okay then, bye", Aman said.
"Bye", Khushi said while ending the call.
Khushi was now feeling sorry for Arnav. How can he neglect his diet for wor? Seriously did he think work is more important than food? She felt that she was wrong to burst out at him without knowing his condition. He must have been stressed out at that time and to top it all, he was in an empty stomach. No wonder that he responded to her in that manner. She saw Arnav coming towards the table, so she calmed herself down.
"Sorry, I had to meet the manager. So Khushi what do you want to eat?", Arnav asked nicely.
Both of them gave their orders to the waiter who was standing near them. After dismissing the waiter, Arnav thought of starting the conversation, as he didn't want to spend the rest of the evening silent.
"Khushi I'm really sorry for ignoring you. It was just that, you know me, right? I never can neglect work", Arnav said apologetically.
"So you can neglect everything for work?", Khushi said firmly.
"No, I don't mean that. I'm still getting used to the fact that you have entered my life. My family have understood me by now. But since you are not familiar with my lifestyle, I should have been more considerate. I'm really sorry", Arnav said, hoping that Khushi would forgive at least now.
"You know Arnav, work is not life. I agree you need money to live. And to earn money you should work hard. But how can you be successful in working in the future, if you neglect about your health?", Arnav now knew that Khushi was informed about him skipping his lunch.
"I know Arnav you were stressed out that time and to top it all, you were in an empty stomach. But you should have at least explained to me the situation and I would have understood", Khushi tried explaining to Arnav about his mistake.
"I know Khushi. I will try not to let it happen again", Arnav said indicating that he had realized his mistake.
"I hope you will keep your word. And never you dare to skip a meal. Else I will tell Di", Khushi threatened Arnav.
"Oh my god. All this time I had to deal with Di and now you too have started. Great. But please don't tell Di. Because she is far more worse than you", Arnav said teasingly.
"How do you know that I'm easier to deal with?", Khushi asked raising an eyebrow.
"Oh please, look at you. One dinner and you have forgiven me", Arnav said with a wink.
"What the... Do you want me to get back to the earlier mood?", Khushi said a little angrily.
"Uffo Khushi, I was kidding. You are surely suitable for the role of Mrs.Raizada", Arnav said with his exclusive smirk on his face. He was amazed to see the rosy cheeks of Khushi now turning slightly in to red, as she was blushing.
The waiter had now arrived with food. After serving themselves the delicacies laid in front of them, they started to enjoy the meal. The food was delicious. Khushi was really enjoying the meal. Arnav was finally glad that his stomach was no longer empty. They silently enjoyed the meal, as they were both hungry.
By the time the desert arrived, both were enjoying each others company. They were talking about their likes and dislikes and Khushi as usual had started to blabber about the wonderful memories of her childhood. Arnav was surprised thinking, "How could a girl talk this much?".
Khushi had suddenly realized that Arnav was staring at her with utmost surprise.
"What?", Khushi asked.
"Nothing. It's just that, don't you ever feel tired of talking so much? I mean leave yourself aside, what about the person who is listening to all your chattering? Don't you feel sorry for him?", Arnav asked sarcastically.
"I don't care. This is my way. Either you accept the way I am or just find another girl", Khushi said without thinking. Later she realized that what she said had made Arnav's smile drop.
"I'm sorry Arnav, I didn't mean to...", Khushi said in an apologetic tone.
"It's okay Khushi. Lets go. It's getting late", Arnav said, trying to hide what he felt with those words.
They left the restaurant and was now driving towards Khushi's house. Khushi felt awkward with the silence that was surrounding them. She couldn't wait anymore, as she knew that he was hurt. But she didn't know how to handle the situation right now, so she thought of reducing the tension between them.
"Arnav, how did you get to know that I loved Chinese?" Khushi asked, as she was curious to know how he had found about her favourite type of meal.
"Just the way you got to know that I skipped the meal. I asked Aman to ask Payal. It only took 10 minutes to find out that you loved Chinese", Arnav said, trying to forget about Khushi's previous words.
Although he didn't love Khushi, he knew that any other girl wouldn't be the perfect match for him. In these few days of their relationship, they had shared a lot of feelings, including joy, anger, sorrow, guilt, regret, etc. If they weren't the perfect match, they wouldn't have been where they were right now. That's why he felt a little hurt with Khushi's words.
As soon as Khushi's house came to his view, he remembered that Khushi had something important to show to him. Well, that important thing was what led them to go out on their first date at the first place. So he thought of bringing it up, before saying good bye to her. He applied the brakes in front of the house.
"Khushi, what was the important thing you wanted to show, when you came to meet me today?", Arnav asked enthusiastically.
"Oh shit!!!!!!!!! I totally forgot. Wait right here, I'll be back", Khushi said hurriedly as she opened the door.
"But Khushi...", Arnav's words were lost to the thin air around, as he saw Khushi's figure disappear as she entered the house.
What would be Khushi's first gift for Arnav? What will Khushi feel when she would get to know that Arnav will be leaving to UK for a week? Will helping with Payal's marriage preparations help Khushi to forget, that Arnav was out of the country?

Chapter 17

Chapter 17 - The Gift

It's been a week since Khushi got to know the truth about Arnav's past. And today was their engagement day. For the past week Arnav has been busy with office work and Khushi's been busy with engagement preparations. They barely got time to talk to each other. For Khushi's amazement, Lavanya had not tried to hurt her feelings during this week. So finally the Gupta house was decorated in a glamorous manner. As usual Gupta's wanted to impress the whole world, as their only daughter was going to marry the elder son of Raizada house. So decorations were a little too much as usual, but it was perfect.
By now, all the guests had arrived and the Raizada's were present, except for Arnav. Akash was eager to see her fiancee and so was Arush to see her new mom-to-be all dressed up. Suddenly everybody looked at the stairs and saw Lavanya descending the stairs. She looked classy and elegant at the same time. Her hot pink lehenga (http://worlduks.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Neha-Dalvi-Bridal-pink-saree-trends-2012.jpg) clearly seemed to be intensifying her beauty. Her hair was done in a messy bun and the curls grazed her swan like neck.
Finally after she arrived near Akash, Arush came running towards her step mom-to-be.
"Wow Mumma-to-be, you look really beautiful today", Arush said in a soft, cute tone.
Lavanya bent to Arush and placed a kiss on his cheeks and said, "Thanks my step son-to-be".
They both smiled at each other. Akash was glad to see his son finally ready to accept Lavanya as his new mom. Although Akash had invited Chaya's parents for his engagement, they had still not been able to get over their daughter's loss. So they had declined the invitation.
Anjali was worried as her Chotte had not arrived yet. She tried calling Arnav's phone, but it went straight to voice-mail. She knew that Arnav was ready for marriage, but she still had a small doubt whether he would show up or not.
Everybody was praising Lavanya's beauty, when their whispers were stopped by seeing the other beauty who was now cascading the stairs. It was Khushi, and she was accompanied by Payal. Khushi was already feeling nervous, so she felt herself shivering a bit. All the guests eyes were on the adopted daughter of Gupta's. Unlike Lavanya, she had her own natural beauty. Lavanya was fuming as she could sense that everybody were now dumbstruck by Khushi's beauty. But she tried to calm herself by thinking, it was only a matter of time before she would become Khushi's elder sister-in-law.
Khushi's eyes searched for Arnav, but she realized that he hadn't arrived yet. She felt a little depressed and this was noticed by Anjali, as she could see Khushi's distressed eyes. Anjali tried to call Arnav again, but it was of no use. The auspicious time was getting closer, and still Arnav was not to be seen. Everybody were now getting anxious to know, as to why Arnav Singh Raizada, the person who was always punctual, was late on his own engagement day. People started to gossip saying, that he might be having second thoughts, etc. Khushi was now feeling down, as she felt maybe the guests were right. But somewhere in her heart she knew, the man she had got to know in the past few days would not abandon her like this. So she tried to make her head strong, and hoped her Devi Maiyya would give her helping hand today. Just as if her prayers were heard, she heard the voice she was longing to hear all this time. It was Arnav.
"Sorry Di, I saw your calls, but I didn't want to be late by answering your calls. It was a business emergency", Arnav said jovially, as he knew his sister wouldn't spare him for being late today.
"Really Chotte, stop giving excuses for not answering my calls. Apologize to Khushi. You have made her go through hell  just few moments before", Anjali said, in a strict tone.
"Nahi Di,  it's okay. I know how much work is important for him. What's important is that he came at the right time. After all the Great ASR is never late, right?", Khushi said in a teasing manner, hoping that it would clear the tension around. All the guests laughed.
"Arre wah!!!!!!!! Arnav your fiancee is such a forgiving person, but not me. Apologize to her", Anjali said to Arnav, while pinching Arnav's ear.
"Ouch Di!!!!!!!! You know, you really should cut your witch like nails. But if saying sorry to Khushi helps you to get out of your anger, here you go. I'm really sorry Khushi", Arnav said with a smirk.
Lavanya had enough of all the crap. She was supposed to get the spotlight, not Khushi. So she thought of deviating the guests attention from all the crap being shown by Anjali.
"Everyone, I think the auspicious time is really close", Lavanya said.
"Oh yes. Come on let's go", Anjali said.
Both couples were ready for the ritual of exchanging rings. Akash's and Lavanya's rings were with Manorama and Mona. Arnav and Khushi's rings were with Anjali and Payal. Lavanya was restless as she wanted to become a Raizada bahu as fast as possible. As for Khushi, she was nervous and she could feel goosebumps on her skin. Arnav had clearly noticed Khushi's nervousness, so he held her hand and squeezed it hoping to calm her nerves. He realized that his effort was successful, as an amazing smile appeared on Khushi's face. As there were few minutes left for the ritual, everybody were excited. Arnav's eyes surveyed every nook and corner in the house and he realized that his best buddy was not present.
"Di didn't Rahul come?", Arnav asked a little sadly.
"Oh yes, where is he? I thought he might have told you why he was not coming today. May be he had some important personal thing to attend to", Anjali said as she was clueless of what happened between Arnav and Rahul.
It was time and it was the moment everyone was waiting for. The exchanging of rings. First the ladies made their fiances wear the ring. Khushi smoothly slipped a golden ring (http://www.olive-reg.com/images/2011/12/GR-CD-C5MM-Y-1-fairtrade-gold-ring.jpg) in Arnav's right hand ring finger. Everybody clapped and it was now Arnav's turn to adorn Khushi's left hand ring finger with a ring. He took the ring handed over by Anjali and gently slipped it in Khushi's finger. The ring (http://saveonlinestore.com/save-online-shopping-store-engagement-ring-14k-Heart-engagement.jpg) was simple but adorable. It had two hearts which clearly signified the binding of two hearts on this special day. At the end of the ritual, everybody clapped and extended their heartfelt wishes to both couples.
"Arnav", Arnav turned as he heard the familiar voice. It was Rahul.
"Hey Rahul, I thought you wouldn't come", Arnav said a little worried. There was no one around, except for Arnav, Khushi and Rahul. Khushi was surprised to see Rahul here today, but she was truly glad.
"Didn't I say that I would be there with you in every occasion. After all I have to get some experience about these stuff, right? I will also have to get married one day you know?", Rahul  said with a wink.
"Well, well, look who is talking", Arnav said in a teasing tone.
"Look Arnav, I'm sorry for the way I talked to Khushi that day. I didn't mean to be rude. You know me nah? I always talk without thinking, unlike you. I'm really sorry dude. Hope you can forgive me", Rahul said in an apologetic tone. Arnav felt that Rahul was really regretting the way he behaved with Khushi. So he thought of forgiving him.
"Fine, on one condition. You should accept Khushi as your Babhi and I need you to apologize to her", Arnav said seriously.
"Okay, no problem", Rahul said calmly. He shifted his eyes towards Khushi and said, "I'm really sorry Khushi, I really didn't mean to hurt you. It was just that I was hurt by the truth. Normally girls are ready to die for both Arnav and me. But when you said no to me that day, I felt like a rejected good. I was truly hurt. Then when I got to know after some days that you were ready to marry Arnav, I thought you lied to me. I thought that you had a real crush towards Arnav or something like that. But that day when Arnav said that you were doing this marriage for both of your families happiness, I really felt glad that my friend had got the life partner he deserved. You know what, I felt as if you both are made for each other, because you both are ready to sacrifice your lives for you families happiness. So I'm really sorry for everything I have done to hurt you Khushi. Hope you can forgive me".
"Wow Rahul, you think I would forgive you so easily?", Khushi asked in a harsh tone.
Both Rahul and Arnav were surprised at Khushi's reaction. Seeing the two friends expressions, Khushi started to chuckle.
"Haha... you both should see your faces from a mirror right now. Come on, there's nothing to forgive Rahul. I really didn't mean to hurt you that day. I just said what I needed to say hoping that you wouldn't misunderstand the situation. Anyway, what happened has happened. Since you and Arnav are already best buddies, I'm sure that we both can be best buddies as well, right?", Khushi said, extending her hand in hope of a handshake.
"Of course,  why not? After all I'm sure I will find a more better friend in you, than in Arnav", Rahul said while shaking Khushi's hand.
"Since she is you best friend now, I guess our partnership is not required anymore???', Arnav said with a smirk.
"Oh buddy!!!!!!!!!! You were, you are and you will be my best friend, until I find my better half", Rahul said while cracking a joke and embracing Arnav in a tight hug. Three of them burst out laughing.

"Congratulations to both of you", Rahul said, sincerely hoping that these two amazing people will be able to be happy in their entire lives.
Everybody were having a wonderful time. Khushi was busy helping Rama with serving the guests. Suddenly Mona called Khushi and asked her to bring the gifts that were supposed to be gifted to the Raizada's. Last night Khushi had done all the wrapping, so they were left in her room. So Khushi went upstairs to her room.
As Khushi was busy with serving, she hadn't realized that one important person was missing downstairs. It was Arnav. Khushi went in her room, took the gifts that were on her bed and turned around to leave. But she was surprised with shock when she saw Arnav in her room. Arnav locked the door from inside and took slow steps towards her.
Among the earlier chaos downstairs, Arnav had not been able to realize how alluring his fiancee was today. She looked breathtaking. Although she had chosen an off-white lehenga, it made her look graceful. She looked like a real angle today. Her attire (http://celebstreetfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/aishwarya-rai-in-sexy-lehenga-by-manish-malhotra.jpg) was simple, yet ravishing. Lower part of her hair was left in curls and this gave her an innocent and childish look. The use of the eye-liner, gave her eyes a prominent look today. Her inner thoughts were clearly visible through her eyes. Her ears and her creamy white neck was adorned by a charming gold diamond necklace and a pair of matching earrings (http://www.jewelry4us.com/IndianGoldJewellery/image/cache/data/DJN010-1025x768.jpg). Her outlook was more beautified by the two pairs of diamond bangles (http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4586450361778499&pid=15.1) she had worn today. To say she looked beautiful would be an understatement, today she looked exquisite.
Khushi was now feeling a little awkward for many reasons. First her fiance was in her room, for her greatest surprise. Never in her life had a guy entered her room before. Secondly, Arnav had locked the door, and she did not expect this from him. Thirdly, he looked like a Greek god today. Yes, he was dressed in a three piece suit as usual, but there was something about him today that made her feel more attracted towards him. His molten brown eyes were clearly speaking on his behalf right now, and she realized that he was admiring her beauty silently. At the thought of him admiring her, she could feel her heart skip few beats and by now the pace of her heart was following a crescendo. She was lost in his eyes that were sparkling with desire, that she almost forgot that she was holding the gifts.
Thanks to Arnav, Khushi was saved by another bashing, which she would have had experienced from her Chachi if she dropped the gifts. He had now kept the gifts safely on the bed and was standing in front of Khushi, where there was a very small distance between them.
"Well, well, Khushi. I'm sure you don't want to hear an earful like last week, do you?", Arnav said in a sarcastic tone.
Khushi narrowed her eyes and said in anger, "Last week also I heard an earful becasue of you, today also it would have been because of you. What are you doing in a girl's room?",
"Wow, so much anger? And that too at your fiance. Nah, don't you think it's not nice? Anyway, this is not any girl's room, this is my fiancee's room. So I don't see anything wrong in that", Arnav said with his unique smirk.
"Look Arnav, if Chachi found out that you are here, what will she think? You should go now and I have to go downstairs as well", Khushi said with nervousness.
"So the problem is with Chachi, right? Not you? You don't want me to leave?", Arnav said teasingly.
"Arnav stop flirting. Just leave", Khushi said in a pleading tone.
"Anyway what are you doing here?", Khushi asked as she wanted to know what Arnav was doing in her room.
"I thought you would have been upset with me for being late today. So I wanted to apologize", Arnav said in an apologetic tone.
"Oh, you got the deserved punishment from Di, so I guess that's enough. Anyway you came today and that's all that matters", Khushi said with a smile.
"Really, aren't you least curious to know why I got late?", Arnav asked.
"No, why should I? I mean I know that business is like food for you. So you must have had an emergency meeting with a client, right? What's new about it?", Khushi said in a cool tone.
"Hmmm, yeah it was an emergency situation, but not with a client. Actually, it was really difficult than handling a client", Arnav said.
Khushi didn't understand what Arnav was saying, so she asked, "What are you trying to say Arnav?".
"I got late because I had to buy an engagement gift for you. Actually this would be my first gift for you, right? So I wanted it to be special. Since I'm not good at choosing gifts and also since I had no idea what you liked, I thought of buying something that would remind you of our first meeting", Arnav continued telling Khushi what he was up to.
When Khushi heard Arnav saying "First GIft", she felt her heart flipping thousand times with joy. She never imagined that Arnav could be so thoughtful. Arnav saw that Khushi's angelic smile had reached her eyes, and now her eyes were sparkling with delight.
Arnav took out a gift box and opened it. It was a diamond designer watch (http://www.umekobeautyfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Designer-watches-for-women-with-diamond.jpg). Khushi couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was a real piece of artistry.
" Do you remember our first encounter, Khushi? Remember the way you got late? I will never forget that girl who was humble enough to accept that she did a mistake by being late and the way she apologized without any hesitation. That was why I was impressed by you at the first place. This watch is a symbol of that meeting. Every time you wear this and check the time, you will remember our first meeting", Arnav said in a grateful tone.
"Wow Arnav, this is amazing. How thoughtful of you? I really love your gift", Khushi thanked while wearing it on her hand.
Arnav was glad to see Khushi acting like a child who had got b'day gifts from her loved ones. But he got worried when he saw Khushi taking off the watch and was now giving it back to him.
Khushi looked at Arnav's questioning face and said, "I don't deserve to be the owner of this gift Arnav. I didn't at least remember to buy you a gift. What have I done to get a such wonderful gift at the first place? I don't want it Arnav, I can't take it".
Khushi's eyes were filled with guilt and Arnav was moved by Khushi's thoughts. How can a girl be so innocent? Why did God take away happiness from this wonderful girl? What wrong had she done to lose her parents at such a small age? No, I won't let this happen to her. She is my responsibility now, and I will make her happy in however possible way I can.
Arnav looked straight in to Khushi's eyes and said, "This is nothing compared to what you did for me and my family Khushi. I mean, all the girls I have known throughout my life wanted me for my looks, money or status. But you only wanted to see the happiness of my family, especially my Di. You sacrificed your life for my Di's happiness. And my Di's happiness is the biggest gift you can give to me. So you deserve this, Khushi".
Arnav slowly took Khushi's hand and made Khushi wear the watch. They were lost in each others eyes, trying to figure out how lucky they were to have each other. Khushi couldn't explain the emotions she was feeling today for Arnav. The only thing she thought was, how could someone be heartless to break the heart of such a wonderful person?
Khushi is about to get busy with Payal's wedding preparations. Will Arnav miss Khushi? Will they become more closer during these days?
Chapter 16 - Bitter Truth

Arnav was now standing in front of Khushi and there was only a small gap between them. Khushi was relieved to see anger in his eyes being replaced by pain .
"You really want to know what happened. Fine, then listen", Arnav said in a harsh tone.
"I was in my 3rd year in the university at that time. As you know, I didn't have many friends. It was not that I hated to interact with them, I just didn't feel the need to. But if someone came and asked for help, I would help that person somehow. I really loved to be alone. Also I was popular in the campus as the most hot-tempered guy. Not only that, I was famous as an all-rounder as well. I was good at studies, basketball, tennis, playing drums, organizing events, swimming, etc. So all the lecturers loved me. Not only the lecturers, all the girls were crazy over me. But I knew all of them loved me for my looks, my money and status. Guys were different. They hated my guts and they were jealous of me because their girls were drooling over me 24x7. But I had one close friend. That was Rahul. We knew each other since I started university. He was the Dean's son. Although his father was the Dean, he was a down-to-earth kid. He was quite different than me. Actually he was quite similar to you. But we became good friends and we were inseparable. He was not as bright as me, but he was never jealous of me. Time went by, and one day a new girl arrived at our uni. She was modern, but she behaved well unlike other spoiled rich girls. Frankly speaking she was just like me. She also loved to be alone. She didn't have many friends, because girls were jealous of her. We both were in the class, but never did we talk a word with each other. One day I was walking to the library, when I heard a loud cry from nearby. Then I realized the cry came from the stairs. I ran towards the stairs and so the new girl had fallen. She seemed to be in excruciating pain. I went to her and checked her ankle. It was clearly twisted. So I helped her to fix it. She thanked me and introduced herself as Sheetal. Then I introduced myself as well. We shaked hands with each other and that's when I felt an unknown feeling within myself with that touch. I didn't know what it was, but it felt different. We said good bye and left, but never did we think that our introduction would lead us to something wonderful". Arnav kept on telling his story.
"Few weeks went by, and we started to talk with each other. I felt myself to be comfortable around her. We enjoyed each others companionship. We became good friends. We started to sit together in our class, we had lunch together, went to the library together, etc. Even Rahul said that we were the perfect couple. Then he began to tease with me saying about her. As we got closer I got to know that she was a famous businessman's daughter. Her father's business was in UK, but her parents had divorced recently. So her mom and herself returned to India. That's why she joined our uni. After knowing about her family background, I felt myself being slowly attracted towards Sheetal. I didn't want to, but it just happened. Later on I figured out, we were perfect for each other".
"After opening up about our feelings, Sheetal and I decided to see each other as a couple. We were the IT couple in the uni. Everybody wanted to be like us. Because we didn't have any trouble. Our families realized that they were of same status. Although Sheetal was modern, she respected the elders and our customs. She was basically the perfect Bahu any family would wish for. We were a couple for one and half years. By that time, we were deeply in love with each other. I never thought falling in love would be so wonderful. It was like a fairy tale. We couldn't wait without seeing or talking to each other, at least for one day. Then we were about to take our next step in our life. My family and Sheetal's mom wanted us to get engaged. We were over the moon. I wondered how I became so lucky. So the arrangements were made and it was the day of our engagement. Both the families were present, except for my best buddy, Rahul. I tried to call him, but I couldn't reach him. So I had to move on with the rituals, as I didn't have a choice. But just as we were about to exchange rings, Rahul arrived", Arnav said with a firm tone.
"It was then I realized that my perfect love life was not as perfect as I thought was. It was all a lie. Sheetal was just a liar. She was just like the other girls, except the others showed it from outside. Sheetal was all pretending to be the nice girl. Rahul had brought another guy with him. His name was Shyam. Rahul explained Sheetal's plan. Sheetal was in love with Shyam. But Shyam was not from a wealthy family. He was a poor guy. Although Sheetal was from a rich family, her father's money was not enough for them to get married and lead a new life, as her mom and dad were now divorced. Sheetal's mother didn't have enough money as well. So Sheetal knew if she carried out her studies well and got a job, Shyam  and herself would be able to lead a better life. But after the encounter with me, she had found out about everything about my life. Who I was?, Where I lived?, What I do?, everything. Then she saw an easy way out from her problems. So together with her mom and Shyam she laid the perfect plan. She somehow managed to win my heart and made me fall in love with her. And if everything happened according to her plan, she would have married me and later on filed a divorce. But thanks to my friend, her plan failed", Arnav said clenching his fists. Khushi could feel how much pain and anger he was feeling right now. She couldn't watch it any longer, so she came near him and placed her hand on his hand in a soothing manner.
"I couldn't believe myself. I didn't know how I did the mistake of falling in love. After that I never met her. I found out that she had left town. I'm really grateful for Rahul, because he saved me when I was about to drown. My Di was always there to help me survive the aftermath. If it wasn't for her I would not be standing here with you today", Arnav said in a weak tone. Khushi could feel that Arnav was a broken man from inside. She saw Arnav's eyes welling up.
"Khushi, everybody in this world see the arrogant, ruthless, egoistic, hard-built Arnvav Singh Raizada, but from inside I'm just a broken man. My soul is weak and if you actually look in to it, you will see that I'm a more weak person than you are. You know, after what happened in my life, every time when I see a couple I hope that they won't have to experience what I did. Because it hurts Khushi, it hurts a lot. No one will be able to understand that pain, except for the person who suffers from it. I don't hate Sheetal, but I don't feel anything for her as well. Yes, she was my first love and may be my last. But as of for now, love is just an unwanted desire for me", Arnav ended his story, and he felt tears descending down his face. The only woman who had seen him broken till now was his sister, but today there was another woman in his life willing to witness it.
Khushi couldn't bear it any longer, so without thinking any further she embraced Arnav in a warm hug. She didn't know why, but she hoped that by this hug she would be able to share some of the pain he was going through. Arnav was surprised by Khushi's sudden gesture. He tried to resist, but it was useless and therefore he gave in. He hugged her back and he felt as if all his pains were taken away. He didn't know who this girl was, whether she was a guardian from the God or an angel from heaven. But one thing he knew, that she was the other half of his incomplete soul.
The sudden ring of Khushi's phone, made Arnav and Khushi step out of their hug. They didn't realize how long they have been consoling each other, until Khushi's Chachi shouted at her through the phone.
As soon as Khushi received the call from her Chachi, Arnav had decided to drop Khushi as soon as possible, as he knew that she was in trouble. It was nearly 10.30pm. Both of them were starving, but Khushi thought it was best for her to go home as soon as possible. They wished each other good night and Khushi entered her house.
Khushi saw her Chachu and Chachi was about to explode. She knew she was not supposed to come late, but she was out with her fiance, not with any other guy, unlike Lav. Also she told Rama that she would be late.
"Where were you?", Chachi asked in an angry tone.
"Arnav wanted to meet me, so I had to go. But I told Rama that I would be late", Khushi said politely.
"We don't mind you going out, but next time come home at least by 8pm. We don't care what you do, because it's your personal life, but you have to think about our reputation as well", said Rajiv roughly.
"Well, since you both seems to be not bothered about my safety, but about your reputation, where is Lav? Is she home yet? Oh wait, she is in a b'day party in a club, right? Sorry, if I'm being rude, but I don't think I'm the one who is ruining your reputation, it's your own daughter", finally letting out what she felt, Khushi went to her bedroom, saying a soft sorry to her aunt and uncle.
Khushi was in her bedroom, after changing into her night dress. She was thinking about the day's events. The way she enjoyed the conversation with Arnav, how Rahul blamed her for nothing, the joyful moments of shopping, the way Arnav stood up for her, how Arnav opened up to her and most importantly their first hug. Khushi felt a small smile appearing in her face as she remembered the warm embrace. It felt good. And by now she realized that she loved every single moment she spent with her husband-to-be.
Arnav was about to rest as he had a long day. He felt different today. He knew why and he realized it was because of Khushi. All this time only his sister was ready to hear his bitter truth, but today there was this amazing life partner who was ready to share his every sorrow with him. He knew that he won't be able to love her, but he made a promise to himself that he would never let tears come in her eyes intentionally. Because for him, she was an angel sent from heaven by his mom.

Arnav and Khushi's engagement coming up. Will Rahul attend the occasion? If so, will he apologize to Khushi? What would be Arnav's first gift to Khushi?

Chapter 15

Chapter 15 - Bonds

Khushi quickly wiped her tears and put a smile on her face. She turned around and said "Sorry Anjali ji, it was my fault. I got late".
Arnav was amazed to see Khushi successfully managing the situation, without any difficulty.
"It's alright Khushi. And please stop calling me Anjali ji, you can call me Di", said Anjali with a sweet smile on her face.
Arnav was happy to see how easily the two women had started to bond with each other. On the other hand, Lavanya was fuming as things didn't happen according to the way she expected. But she knew she wouldn't be able to be successful on her first step. Anyway she was glad that she had won Anjali over.
All four of them spent the rest of the day shopping and they enjoyed it a lot. Although Arnav didn't like shopping much, he didn't make a fuss either. He helped by carrying the bags for his Di, because he realized that after all, his Di was doing all this for him.
It was around 4pm and they had finished shopping by now. They were at the parking lot, ready to bid good bye to each other. Suddenly Arnav got a call from his office. After answering the call, he turned towards the three women and said in an apologetic tone, "Di, there is an emergency situation in the office and I have to go now.  Lavanya, can you drop Di, if it is okay with you?"
"Uffo Arnav, is this something to ask even? Of course, no problem. Even I will get to meet Akash and Arush as well. Come on, lets go Di", Lavanya said happily. She was glad that Arnav trusted her over Khushi.
Arnav thanked Lavanya and said good bye to all three of them and left the place.
Khushi was a little disappointed with what happened. Didn't Arnav trust her to take care of his Di? Maybe he considered Lavanya as a more responsible person than she is. She kept all the weird thoughts aside and got in the car. Just as she was about to start the car, she heard a message alert tone in her phone. She took her phone and checked the sender's name. It said "Arnav". A small smile appeared in the corner of her face. She opened the message quickly and read it.
Arnav was driving towards his office and remembered what had happened in the mall. He knew Khushi was hurt a lot. And he didn't want Rahul to keep on blaming Khushi for everything. Arnav also knew that something was cooking in Lavanya's mind, but he knew that it was too early to figure out what it is. Arnav had seen pain in Khushi's eyes every time Lavanya blames her for nothing. And when Rahul had wrongly accused Khushi for no reason today, he had seen the same pain in those innocent eyes. He didn't know why, but he couldn't bear it any longer as well. So he texted Khushi, saying that he would pick her up after his meeting at around 7pm.
Khushi was totally confused after reading Arnav's message. Why would he want to pick me up? She was totally lost as she didn't know where he was going to take her and what he wanted to say? Was he going to blame her as well? She didn't have a single clue of what was about to happen, but she was Khushi Gupta and she knew whatever happened, she was ready to face it.
Khushi freshened up and was ready by 6.50pm. She was wearing a pink coloured top and blue denim jeans. Her hair was done in a ponytail and she was quite the charmer. She came downstairs and was about to leave. She searched for Chachu or Chachi, but they were not to be seen. So she informed Rama that she was going out and told her that she would get late. She heard the horn of Arnav's car so she ran out of the house, saying good bye to Rama.
When she came out she saw Arnav's car was parked outside(http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4529911407641174&pid=15.1). The car was able to well define the man inside. She smiled to herself and sat on the passenger seat. She was a little nervous, but was calmed down by the smile on Arnav's face.
"Hi", Arnav said.
"Hi. Why did you want to meet me now? I mean we were together the whole day, right?", Khushi said with curiosity.
"Actually there is something I have to do for you. Also thank you for not telling Di about what happened between Rahul and you. She would have panicked and I would have had to deal with it", Arnav said smiling.
"No problem. You don't have to say thank you, she is my Di as well. Remember what I said. I want to see others smile because of me, not worried. And Rahul has a problem with me, not you all. It's fine if he hates me. I did what I thought was right", Khushi said confidently.
"But where are we going Arnav?", Khushi asked.
"Wait and watch", Arnav said calmly.
They stopped the car in front of a house. Arnav got down from the car and helped Khushi get down as well. Then both of them went together towards the house. Arnav rang the bell. He saw the questioning look on Khushi's face. He just nodded and told her to calm down.
The door was opened  and Khushi was surprised to see the person standing in front of her. It was Rahul.
"Arnav!!!!!!!!!!", Rahul said with utter shock.
"Come in", he said.
Both Khushi and Arnav went inside.
"Rahul, I didn't come here today as your friend. All these days, when there was an argument between Khushi and you, I took your side. Because at that time you were my friend and she was the employee. So you were my priority. But now things have changed. She is my fiancee and she is my priority. That doesn't mean I have forgotten that your my friend. But the way you talked to her today was rude. Just because she declined you as her boyfriend doesn't give you the right to say such harsh things to her. She might have been adopted, but I surely know she doesn't run after money. So without getting to know the person, stop accusing her for something she hadn't done", Arnav said in a rough tone.
Khushi couldn't believe what she was hearing. Arnav was once again taking her side. She felt a little proud, but she didn't want to see the bond between the two friends ruined as well. So she thought of stopping Arnav.
"Arnav, it's fine. It was just a mistake. You don't have to blame Rahul for that. He was just trying to protect you. Be your friend", Khushi said.
"But first he should see stuff from a fresh mind. And that's the difference between him and me . If I thought in the same way as he did, today I would have blamed you, right? Then I would have done the wrong thing as well. So stop trying to be nice Khushi. I'm doing this because I'm his friend. I don't want to loose you Rahul. I want you to clear your doubts. Khushi and I are getting married to make our families happy. She doesn't love me and she knows that I won't love her as well. But she is sacrificing her life for both our families happiness. So try to understand. Because if you can't, you better stay out of this", Arnav said with a little bit of anger.
"Is that all Arnav. Have you said all what you came to say. Wow, dude. Did she cast a spell on you? The person who said that he didn't want to marry since four years, is now ready to get married? I find this quite intriguing. But if you are not ready to believe me, then fine. This friendship is over. Don't tell later that I didn't warn you. You are going to regret your decision one day", Rahul said  firmly to Arnav.
Khushi didn't know what she had to say, but she was really upset. She didn't want Arnav to lose his best friend because of her. But she was speechless.
"Okay then, this is a good bye, I guess. Remember I still respect our friendship. I know what I'm doing is right. And I know you too. You will realize your fault one day and that day you will come back to me. I will be waiting for that day, my friend. Also I'm Arnav Singh Raizada and I don't take decisions that I will regret, at least not anymore", Arnav said what he had to say. He took Khushi's hand and left Rahul's place.
After sometime Arnav and Khushi were sitting in a park. Khushi was really upset for what happened before and she could see Arnav was upset as well. The whole surrounding was calm and peaceful. But the rabbit on the moon was smiling, seeing the couple who have come a long way since their first meeting. Stars were twinkling, as if they were smiling with joy. Khushi couldn't take the silence any longer, so she thought of breaking it.
"I'm really sorry Arnav", Khushi said.
Arnav looked at the angelic face and saw that her eyes were welled up with tears.
"Hey, hey!!! Why are you saying sorry. If he can't accept the fact that you are going to become a part of my life, then it's his problem. Not mine or yours. Why are you wasting your tears on him", Arnav said trying to make Khushi feel better. But it didn't seem to work out.
"Look at you. Never in my dreams did I think I will have to marry a tear tap", Arnav said with a smirk.
Khushi laughed a little. She had never seen this side of Arnav. The caring, nice, cheerful Arnav.
"That's my girl. Come on!!!!!!! Your name is Khushi. It doesn't mean that you only make others smile. It also means that you should smile as well", Arnav said with a smile on his face.
Khushi wiped her tears and awarded Arnav with the best smile she could give.
Her smile not only brightened his soul, it was able to brighten the whole surrounding that was dark right now.
"Tell me one thing Arnav. How do you believe that I'm not lying to you? I mean how do you trust me over your best friend?", Khushi asked as she was eager to know how he acted so reasonably.
"I know when a person is lying and telling the truth. How do you think I gained this success in such a young age? If I didn't know to read people, I would still be a struggling businessman", Arnav said proudly.
"Hmmm... I guess you are right", Khushi said.
"Arnav, I need to ask you something", Khushi said a little nervously.
"Oh yeah? And what's that?", Arnav said in a cool tone.
"I know you don't talk much about your personal life. But I need to know this. Why have love become an unwanted desire for you? I mean what happened four years ago?", Khushi asked, as she wanted to know what happened in his past.
Arnav felt his blood warming up and he could feel his temper rising.
"That's none of you business Khushi. Let's go. It's late", saying this, Arnav stood up and got ready to leave.

"It's my business now Arnav, since I'm about to become your wife. If you don't want to talk about it now, it's fine. But remember the more you try to ignore your feelings, the more you will suffer. Look at me. I'm suffering from inside because I can't tell how much I'm hurt from every single word Lavanya say to me. Not only Lavanya, but the way Chachu and Chachi treat me just like an adopted kid, really hurts me. But I'm trying to hide my feelings because I respect them for providing me with a roof to live. I know that your hiding your feelings from the outside world as well. Not only that, I know the only person you trust the most with these stuff is Anjali Di. But since you don't want to become a burden for her every time, you try to keep your emotions inside. But now you have me. So you don't have to trouble your Di all the time. You can share your feelings with me as well. Remember when ever you need me, I will be there for you", Khushi said, as she wanted Arnav to open up to her,
Khushi didn't know whether it was the right time for her to say all this, but she didn't want Arnav to go through all the pain by himself. She saw him turn around. He was now taking slow steps towards her. She felt a little shiver as she was feeling nervous of what would happen next.
Will Arnav scold Khushi or will he open up to her? If he opens up to her, what happened to him in the past? Will Lavanya and the rest of Gupta family be happy to see Khushi coming home so late? Will they blame Khushi as well?
