Chapter 21

Chapter 21 - Confessions

Today was the day before Arnav would return after his trip to UK. Previous days, although Khushi had missed Arnav a lot, he had somehow managed to talk to her every single day. They were more comfortable with each other now, and they understood each other very well. He had said that he wouldn't be able to come online today, as there would be an after party of the fashion show. Though Khushi felt disappointed about not being able to talk to him, she somehow made up her mind, as it was only a matter of one day and he will be in front of her eyes tomorrow. She managed to keep herself occupied in Payal's marriage preparations through out the week, and it was a slight success. Today was Payal's Sangeet ceremony and Khushi dressed herself in a cream and blue salwar (http://www.aishwaryadesignstudio.com/images/thumbs/0007483_600.jpeg) and she looked simple, yet charming. Since Lavanya, Chachu and Chachi weren't at home, Khushi informed Rama that she will be late tonight and also to not to wait for her.
After reaching Payal's place, Khushi was busy with making all the preparations. She helped Buaji a lot. Nobody could say that Khushi was the daughter of a country's top lawyer's or the Raizada-bahu-to-be. Because she was a much down to earth person. She kept on teasing Aman the whole day and kept on chatting with Payal as well. It was the evening and Khushi was helping the other girls to serve drinks for the guests, when her eyes stopped at the lovey dovey couple in front of her. She felt so happy for her best friend Payal, as she had found her true love today. Payal seemed to be really happy and Khushi knew that Payal deserved the best. So who else could be better than Aman? Her eyes filled with tears of joy and suddenly she wondered how Arnav and her relationship would be after their marriage.
She had never thought of this topic before. Both of them were doing this marriage to see the happiness of both families, but will they be happy? It was true that Arnav cared for her a lot and that he was there for her, but would that be enough? Will he want her to fall in love with him in the future, even though now he says he didn't care whether she loved him? Will she be able to live without being loved by her own husband? Khushi was now feeling depressed and she could feel pearl like tear drops rolling down her cheeks. She didn't want anyone to see her in this state, so she ran towards the terrace of the house. Little did she know that a pair of eyes had witnessed the state she was in right now.
Khushi was now on the terrace under the dark sky, where stars were hidden by the dark clouds. Although it was supposed to be a full moon day, the dark queen seemed to have successfully prevented the moon from being seen by the world. Khushi felt that the whole surrounding was dull, although it was a happy occasion. She heard soft footsteps from behind and she turned around. She was surprised to see her best friend, Payal. Khushi quickly wiped off her tears and put a smile on her face.
"Hey Payal, what the hell are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with Aman? There is only 30 minutes left to start the sangeet", Khushi said in a firm tone.
"You expect me to enjoy my sangeet, while my best friend is crying on the terrace", Payal asked, as she had witnessed Khushi's state downstairs. So she thought of confronting her now, as she didn't want  to see her best friend worried.
"Arre pagli, why would I cry? These were tears of joy, seeing the way both you and Aman love each other", Khushi said cheerfully, hoping that Payal would buy her story.
"Really Khushi? I have known you for so long, and you think I wouldn't know if you are lying to me? Then I think you don't know much about me", Payal said, a little upset.
"No, no. Okay it's true I was feeling a little sad, because you would be leaving me soon", Khushi said sadly.
"Is it the only reason? You can't lie to me Khushi, you know I will be staying in the same town. It's about Arnav ji, isn't it? You miss him, don't you?", Payal said, as she knew how much Khushi was missing Arnav.
Khushi couldn't hide her tears anymore, and she broke down. Payal felt really sorry for the girl in front of her. She didn't want Khushi to be all worried like this, as she knew Khushi deserved all the happiness in the world. But here she was, bearing all the sorrows in her heart, alone.
"I don't know Payal. Never in my dreams did I think I could miss someone so much, and that too in such a short period of time. I hated him first, for his ego, stubbornness, etc. But every time he made me disappointed, he somehow managed to win me over, by some kind of gesture. Even though I know he doesn't want to love me, I still agreed to marry him, for his family's happiness. Every single day I'm getting attracted to him. May it be his appearance, his touch, his fights, his harsh words, the way he cares, the thoughtful gifts, his simple gestures, his words, everything makes my heart fill with joy. All the emotions I feel, when he is around are new for me. I don't know what it is, but these few days without him made me realize that I cannot live without him. Although he called me every single day, still it's not enough. I need him Payal, I really need him. I have never been dependent on anyone my entire life, but today I feel that I won't be able to breath without him, I know it's insane, but that is the truth", Khushi put all her emotions that she was feeling right now in to words.
"Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!! Khushi you are in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", Payal screamed from the top of her voice.
"Kya? Are you mad?", Khushi asked with questioning eyes.
"I'm not mad, you are. Finally my girl has fallen in love. I thank all the gods in the universe for making you realize that you are in love", Payal said.
"But Payal...", Khushi's words were stopped in the middle, when they heard someone clearing his throat.
Both Payal and Khushi turned around and saw the man who was standing in front of them. Both of them were in shock after seeing the perfect figure in front of them, and he took slow steps towards them. Payal excused and left Khushi alone with the man whom they were talking about. Yes, it was Arnav.
The day Arnav left Khushi and arrived in UK, he didn't miss her much as she missed him. Because for him work was important in life. But later when he called Khushi that day, and when he couldn't get in touch with her, he felt as if he would die if he didn't get to know where she was. To top it all, when Lavanya said that she didn't know where Khushi was, he was furious. He was so worried, that he wished if he could take the next flight and fly back to India. That day he realized, that she was not just his bride-to-be, but she meant something more in his life. But he still didn't know whether it was love. As the days passed by, he realized that everyday during his work, he was checking the time continuously, as to when he would be able to talk to her. He longed to hear her sweet voice. He was now aware that he missed her a lot. He didn't know how he was able to concentrate on his work these few days. Although it was a matter of seven days, he felt as if he had to stay for 700 days. Thanks to Rahul, he somehow managed to survive these few days. But yesterday, when finally his show was a success he felt glad. And when he was standing on the ramp and was praised by all the guests through applause and cheers, he felt as he was missing someone today. And he realized who it was. He wanted to share his joy with that very person and yesterday, at that moment he realized he loved her a lot. So he took the early morning flight today, so that he could meet his love as soon as possible.
Khushi was shocked to see Arnav standing in front of her right now. She was feeling nervous, as she was worried thinking whether he heard what she said with Payal earlier. She felt her blood draining out of her face, due to fear. She felt as if she was tongue-tied. But she somehow managed to utter few words.
"Arnav, what are you doing here? I mean you were supposed to return tomorrow, right?", Khushi tried to sound as normal as possible.
"So you are not glad to see me here now?", Arnav asked firmly.
Khushi was now even more scared, as she couldn't figure out what mood Arnav was in. But clearly he didn't seem to be happy.
"No, no. It's just that I was hoping to see you tomorrow", Khushi said.
"So you would be more glad if I came tomorrow, and not today?", Arnav asked again.
"Stop it Arnav. I'm glad that you came today. But how did you know I was here?". Khushi asked curiously.
"I went to your place, and Rama told that you were here", Arnav replied casually.
"Good that you came. Now you also can attend the sangeet ceremony. Come on, lets go. Payal must be waiting", Khushi said. She took hold of Arnav's hand, hoping to drag him downstairs.
But in turn Arnav took hold of Khushi's wrist and made her face him. She looked straight in to his eyes, and she realized something different about his eyes today. There was no anger, nu guilt, no pain, no passion, but it was something different. But she didn't know what it was.
"Tell me Khushi, what were you talking about with Payal before?", Arnav asked, hoping that Khushi would open up first.
"Nothing Arnav, I was crying, as I was sad that Payal would be leaving after marriage. She came to console me. That's it", Khushi lied.
Khushi was now looking down, and Arnav knew that she was lying.
"So what you told about you missing me, and that whole conversation you had with Payal wasn't true?", Arnav asked angrily.
Khushi once again looked into his eyes and realized that there was no point in hiding the truth anymore. So she confessed her feelings without thinking for a second what the consequences would be.
"I'm sorry, Arnav. I never knew that I will have this much of strong feelings for you. I really didn't mean to get attracted to you in this way, but it just happened. I know you don't want to marry a girl who wishes to be loved, and I really wish you would change your mind today. Because I'm in love with you, Arnav. All this time love was an unwanted desire for me, but today I realized I really want to be loved by you. But I'm not asking you to love me. After knowing what I feel for you now, I'm ready to break off the engagement right away, if that's what makes you happy. Because all I want to see is your happiness. But else if your ready to marry me even after knowing that I'm in love with you, I'm ready to go along with our marriage, because I think my love for you would be enough for both of us to move on", Khushi kept on revealing her feelings, while tears started to roll down her face again.
By now the moon had successfully defeated the dark queen, and was spreading it's silver beams to the whole surrounding. The stars were no longer hidden by the dark clouds and they were shining as if they were waiting to see the response of the young man, hoping it would be a good one. Arnav was surprised to see how innocent Khushi was and her angelic face looked more beautiful due to the glow that was present, due to the moon. He softly cupped her face and looked into her eyes.
"I love you too, Khushi", Arnav said softly in his husky voice. He wiped Khushi tears with his thumbs and placed a soft kiss on her forehead.
Khushi wasn't sure whether she was living in a dream or reality. She couldn't believe what she heard. Arnav saw the surprised look in her eyes and he continued to tell what he really felt for her.
"Yes Khushi, I really love you. I don't know when it happened, but somehow it happened. And today I have realized that my mom has sent you as my angel. Yes Khushi, that's what you are for me, an angel. Past few days made me realize how much I missed you. And yesterday when I was on the ramp, being praised by all the international guests, I realized someone was missing. Then only I realized it was you I missed, and that I had fallen in love with you. I really wished you were there to share what I felt, but you weren't. I couldn't wait anymore, so I took the flight that was available and came as fast as possible".
Khushi was now feeling as if her heart would pop out with joy. Never in her dreams did she believe that Arnav would love her. She now felt as if her parents were watching from heaven, and had sent Arnav as her guardian. She thanked her Devi Maiyya for making Arnav part of her life. She couldn't keep her joy hidden anymore, so she hugged Arnav as tight as possible. They now felt as if they were the luckiest people in the whole world. After sometime they broke their hug and Arnav broke the silence.
"Khushi I know that you are not my first love, but one thing I'm sure of is that you will be my last love. I will love you till the day I breath my last breathe. I will always be there for you no matter what, and I will try to give all the happiness in the world", Arnav said, placing another kiss on her cheek.
Khushi was feeling all lost after Arnav's words, she stood in her toes and gave her first kiss on his cheeks. Arnav could now see that Khushi's rosy cheeks were dark red and that she was feeling shy. He slowly turned her around and he was now standing behind her. He took something out of a box, and slowly grazed his fingers on her nape and made her silky hair lie on one shoulder. Khushi could feel a shiver running down her spine right now and she closed her eyes enjoying the moment. Arnav slowly slipped the necklace around her neck and placed a soft kiss on the side of her neck. Khushi opened her eyes as she realized the feeling of something being placed on her neck. She looked down and saw that Arnav had gifted a simple gold necklace with a letter "A" pendant (http://www.getprice.com.au/images/uploadimg/344/_1_65046_A.jpg). Her face filled with the million dollar worth smile, and she said in her sweet, soft tone, "I love you Arnav, I love you a lot".
Arnav slipped his arms around her waist and Khushi placed her hands on his. He rested his chin on her shoulder and whispered in his husky tone, "I love you too Khushi, I love you more". They looked at the far horizon, while enjoying each others warmth. They now knew that they were made for each other, and they were ready to face every obstacle they would come across in their journey together in the future.
Far away on the night sky, there were three stars shining bright, as if smiling after seeing how much their kids loved each other.
Will Arnav enjoy Payal's sangeet ceremony, as he is not much into these kinds of occasions? What will be the bad news given by Payal, to Khushi and Arnav? Will Lavanya realize that Arnav and Khushi's bond was getting stronger?

Chapter 20

Chapter 20 - Pining

It had been one day since Arnav left to London, and Khushi was already missing him. She was in her room, drawing some sketches, hoping that it would help her to forget how much she missed Arnav. A sudden knock on the door made Khushi come back to her senses.
"Come in", Khushi said.
"Hey Khushi", Lavanya said, in a cheerful tone.
"Hi, what are you doing here? I mean, you never come into my room", Khushi said in a surprised tone.
"Akash told me that Arnav had gone to UK for a week. So Akash wanted me to check on you, and make sure that you are fine", Lavanya said in a concerned tone.
Khushi was surprised at Lavanya's behaviour. All these years Lavanya had been rude to her, and suddenly here she was all concerned about her.
"Okay Lav, what's going on? Why are you all nice to me suddenly?", Khushi asked, in the hope of clearing her doubts.
"I know I have been rude to you all these years, but I'm going to step in to a new life after my marriage. I don't want to ruin my happiness by having small rifts between us. You will be my sister-in-law. So I want to start it on a happy note", Lavanya said, trying to make Khushi understand her intentions.
"Really Lav, I'm glad that you changed your mind. Thanks", Khushi said and hugged Lavanya.
Lavanya patted Khushi and broke the hug.
"Well Arush will be visiting in the afternoon, do you want to join us Khushi?", Lavanya asked politely.
"Yeah sure. It would be great", Khushi agreed.
After Lavanya left, Khushi went deep into her thoughts. "How come Lavanya change so quickly? All these years, she hated me and all of a sudden she is being nice to me? This is beyond impossible. Something is surely cooking in her mind. I really have to be careful", Khushi thought to herself.
Khushi was suddenly brought back to reality by the ringing tone of her phone. As soon as she saw the caller ID, she got all excited. It was an international call and she knew the only person who would call from abroad today was Arnav. So she quickly answered the phone.
"Hey Arnav", Khushi said cheerfully.
"Sorry to disappoint you my Bhabhi-to-be, but it's Rahul", Rahul said in a teasing tone.
"Oh sorry Rahul, I thought it was Arnav", Khushi said in a worried tone.
"It's alright. I know that you miss him. That's why Arnav asked me to call you and tell you that he reached safely. He also told that he will call you tonight", Rahul said.
"Oh okay. Well how are you both?", Khushi asked.
"We both are fine. Well I gotta go, I have to go and meet Arnav downstairs. I will let him know that you miss him", Rahul again said in his teasing tone.
"Stop it Rahul. Ok then. Both of you, take care. Bye", Khushi said laughing.
"Bye Bhabhi-to-be", Rahul hung up the phone while chuckling.
As soon as the call was over, Khushi was feeling sad. "Why couldn't Arnav call me? Is he really that busy, that he couldn't find 5 minutes to talk to me? Does he miss me at all?", Khushi once again thought to herself. She was now feeling more gloomy. And to top it all, it was the rainy season. She went near the window and looked outside. The whole sky was gray in colour, as there were so many rainy clouds floating above. There was no sign of the sun and she was feeling as if it was one of the worst days of her life. She didn't know what to do, in order to keep herself occupied without thinking about Arnav. Then as if her Devi Maiyya had heard her pleas, she got a call from her music teacher.
It was around 2pm and she was now in the music class. Earlier her music teacher had asked if Khushi could spare sometime and teach the kids, as she wanted to go out for a while. Khushi had agreed gladly, as she was feeling really down. So she was now here, with her all time favourite kids. All of them were having a wonderful time singing, playing the piano and chatting. When it was time for the kids to leave, Khushi felt bad again. All the kids bid Khushi good bye, and now Khushi was in her car. She checked the time and it was 4.30pm. She remembered that Arush would be visiting today. So she took her phone to call Lavanya to say that she would be late. But she was shocked to see that her phone battery was dead.
"Great!!! This was the only thing which was left to happen", Khushi said to herself angrily.
Khushi was driving towards her home and now it was raining outside. Although she wanted reach home quickly, she was unable to do so, as their was so much of traffic and to go with it, it was raining heavily.
In Gupta house, Lavanya was all busy playing with Arush. Arush came to visit Lavanya today, because all the members of the Raizada family had gone for a wedding. They didn't want to take Arush, as he had to go to school next day. Although Akash had hesitated to leave Arush with Lavanya, Anjali had made him understand, that Arush needed to bond with Lavanya, so that it would be easy for them to get along after Lavanya's marriage to Akash. So finally Akash had agreed with Anjali's idea.
A sudden ring of the landline phone echoed in the whole house.
"Rama, check the phone", Lavanya shouted.
Rama came running and she answered the phone.
"Hello", Rama said innocently.
"Hello, is this Gupta house?", a male voice answered.
"Yes. Who is speaking?", Rama asked, as she had no clue who was on the other side.
"It's Arnav. Is Khushi at home?", Arnav asked, hoping to speak to Khushi.
"Arre Arnav Bhaiya, Didi tho ghar me nahi he", Rama answered.
As soon as Lavanya heard the words "Arnav Bhaiya", she came running towards the phone. She snatched the phone from Rama, and told her to leave.
"Hey Arnav", Lavanya answered with joy.
"Hey Lavanya, where is Khushi? I can't contact her as herr phone is not working", Arnav asked curiously.
"Well she went out. But don't know where. I will tell her that you called. How are you? I mean Akash told...", Lavanya was stopped in the middle by Arnav.
"Lavanya I have to go now. Tell Khushi to call me back to this number as soon as she comes home. Write this number down. Bye", saying this Arnav ended the call as he had no interest in talking with Lavanya.
Lavanya was angry with Arnav for ignoring her, but she was glad that Khushi was not at home right now. She threw away the paper she wrote down Arnav's number and with a wicked smile, she went to Arush and continued to play with him.
It was around 6pm when Khushi reached home. She was tired like hell. When she came in, she saw Lavanya playing with Arush. She was glad to see Lavanya getting along well with Arush. Lavanya saw that Khushi had arrived.
"Hey, you came? What happened to you? Where were you all this time?", Lavanya asked.
"I went to the music class. Before I went, I tried to tell you, but you were having your afternoon nap. So I left without telling you. But when I was about to call you, I saw that my battery was dead. Sorry", Khushi said apologetically.
"Wow Chachi, you teach music. Can you teach me to play the piano as well?", Arush asked with excitement.
"Of  course, why not? I will go and change and come. Until that, play with your mom-to-be", Khushi said smiling.
"Where is Chachu and Chachi Lavanya?"
"Mom and dad went to a client's party. They will get late", Lavanya said.
Khushi went to her room and immediately put her phone to be charged. Since her battery was dead, she couldn't check whether there were any messages. So she had a bath and came downstairs. All three of them had dinner together. Khushi was now teaching Arush how to play the piano. They were having an awesome time. Khushi suddenly remembered what Rahul had said. It was around 10pm now, and still Arnav had not called her. She was now worried and upset at the same time. Lavanya had already retired to her room. Khushi now felt that it was time for Arush to go to sleep as well.
"Okay Buddy, it's time to go to sleep. Lets go", Khushi said cheerfully.
Arush was surprised at the way Khushi called her Buddy. Khushi saw the surprised look on Arush's face.
"What?", Khushi asked.
"Nahi. It's just that Arnav Chachu calls me Buddy. So when you called me Buddy, I remembered him", Arush said in a soft tone.
"You miss him, don't you? Me too. He didn't at least call me. I'm not going to spare him", Khushi said angrily.
Arush chuckled and said, "Chachi, you are just like Chachu. I think you both are made for each other. Getting angry and all that. Chachi can I sleep with you today. Actually, I normally sleep with dad. But he is not here nah. Lavanya mom is also sleeping. So can I?", Arush asked with pleading eyes.
"Is it something to ask even? Come on. Lets go and sleep. Even I'm tired", saying that, Khushi and Arush went towards Khushi's room.
Khushi tucked Arush under the sheets and placed a kiss on his forehead lovingly.
"You know Chachi, whenever I sleep with Chachu, he does the same", Arush said smiling at Khushi. Khushi smiled and wished Arush good night. She switched off the table lamp and went to check her phone.
She was shocked to see 15 messages. And every single message was from Arnav. She read every single message and she was upset now. After reading the messages only she had realized that he was worried for her, not a bit but a lot. In the last message he seemed to be angry. So she dialed his number and hoped that he would answer. But her efforts were useless. She was now in tears. What could she do? Neither was it his fault, or hers. Suddenly her phone rang, and she answered hoping it was Arnav.
"Hey Khushi, Come on skype, now", Rahul quickly said and cut the phone.
Khushi wiped her tears and switched on her laptop. As Rahul said, Khushi went online. She saw there was a new contact alert and it was from Arnav. She accepted the contact with a smile. And she made a video call.
Khushi was surprised to see Rahul on the other end.
"Hey Bhabhi!!!!!!!!!! How are you?", Rahul said, while waving at Khushi.
Khushi waved at Rahul, but was feeling a little shy as she was in her pyjamas (http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4509720772608905&pid=15.1).
"Hey Rahul, I'm doing great. Where is Arnav? I mean, are you both in the same room?", Khushi asked.
"No, no. Are you kidding me? How can we both be in the same room? He is so boring dude. I would die out of boredom, if I spent one night with him. He asked me to talk to you until he came out of the shower", Rahul said in his jovial tone.
"Really Rahul. I thought I just said to send a request? May be you didn't understand what I said?", Khushi heard the voice she was longing to hear since a long time.
"Nahi Arnav, woh kya hai ki...", Rahul was lost in his own words.
"I know you Rahul. Get lost, you flirt. Go and sleep or do whatever you want, without disturbing me", Arnav said in a rough tone.
"Sorry dude. See you Bhabhi. Good night", Rahul left saying good bye to Khushi.
Arnav was now onscreen. Khushi had never seen Arnav in night clothes, with messy hair. He looked like a teenager today.
"Hey Khushi, where were you all this time? How many messages did you think I sent you? I was worried for you, dammit? Your phone wasn't working, so I called to your land line number. Lavanya said that she didn't even know where you were. Where were you?", Arnav continued in an angry tone.
"I'm sorry Arnav. I went to the music class today. Becasue my music teacher had to go out for sometime, she wanted me to teach the kids. Then later only I saw that my phone was dead. On my way home, I got stuck in traffic, and to top it all it was raining. After I came home I put my phone to be charged, but at that time the phone was totally dead. So I couldn't check the messages. After having dinner, I had to teach Arush to play the piano. I totally lost track of time. I really didn't know that you called my land-line number", Khushi said in her soft, apologetic tone.
Arnav knew Khushi was so upset and he didn't want to see tears in Khushi's eyes. She was looking cute in her pajamas and her open hair was tickling Khushi's cheeks. Her innocent face made Arnav forget his anger. So he thought of calming her down.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. I was just worried for you. But didn't Lavanya tell you that I called? I mean I gave her a number even", Arnav said in a suspicious tone.

"No she didn't. Anyway, I knew she was up to something", Khushi told Arnav the way Lavanya had been nice to her the whole day.
"Khushi, be careful. There is something fishy about her", Arnav said.
"Anyway, is Arush at your place? I mean why?", Arnav asked curiously.
"Oh, you didn't know. Your family has gone for a wedding and they left him here, so that he can attend school tomorrow", Khushi said.
"Did he trouble you? Is he sleeping now?", Arnav asked.
"No, no, he didn't trouble me at all. He is such a sweet kid. He is sleeping with me today", Khushi said.
They continued their conversation for a long time, and neither of them cared what the time was. It was around 3am, when finally Khushi dozed off to sleep, with a smile of satisfaction on her face.
Will Khushi realize that the feelings she has for Arnav is love? Will Arnav realize that he loves Khushi?

Chapter 19

Chapter 19 - Rendezvous before Adieu

Arnav was leaning against the car and had his hands crossed against his chest. He saw Khushi coming running towards him.
"Here you go", Khushi handed over the gift to Arnav.
It was wrapped in a red wrapping paper and it seemed to be some kind of a file like thing. Arnav slowly unwrapped it, and his guess was right. It was a file.
"What is this Khushi?", Arnav asked with a blank face, as he was clueless of what was inside.
"Just open and see", Khushi said with a million dollar worth smile.
Arnav slowly opened the file and was amazed to see the most fresh, exclusive and fascinating designs that was able to give a value, for the simple blank paper. The designs were extremely elegant. His eyes were glittering with happiness and he had the most wonderful smile appeared on his face right now. Khushi's heart was filled with joy as she saw the rarest expressions that appeared on his face.
"Khushi these are just awesome. I mean they are fresh, unique and elegant. I'm really impressed. But why are you gifting these to me? These are your designs, I can't take them", Arnav said seriously.
"I know they are mine Arnav. Yesterday's whole night I thought of what to gift you. But I didn't have the simplest idea of what you liked. So I thought about what you live for. I know your first baby is your Di and your family. Then I thought of your second baby. That is your work. So I thought of gifting my designs to you. I didn't think that you would love them so much, but I tried my best to impress you", Khushi said in her sweet tone.
"Are you kidding me? These are mind blowing. But Khushi if I take these, it would be unfair by you.", Arnav said, as he didn't want to take Khushi's ideas to promote his company.
"I'm a freelancer. So I have the freedom to choose to whom I give my designs. So for your luck, I chose you. It's not going to be unfair by me, because you are my family now. So I want you to accept my gift without any guilt", Khushi said, hoping Arnav would understand the situation.
Arnav felt a new feeling within him, when Khushi mentioned him as her family. He almost forgot the hurtful words Khushi said in the restaurant. He knew that she didn't mean what she said. Also he figured out that he had to get used to her exclusive chattering. Arnav didn't know when, how, or why he did what he did next. Without any hesitation he took Khushi in his arms for a warm hug. He wanted to share the happiness she had given to him right now by giving the most amazing gift and calling him as her family.
Khushi was shocked when Arnav suddely pulled her into a hug. But she felt good, really good. She could feel that Arnav was feeling truly happy today and that he had forgotten the hurtful words blabbered by her without thinking before. She also realized that the pain she saw in his eyes past few days, was reducing with every passing day, and she felt happy as she knew that she was the reason for that relief he felt right now.
They didn't know for how long they stayed in each others embrace, but since it was late, Arnav was the first one to step out of the hug. He wished her good night and thanked her once again for the wonderful gift. Khushi wished him good night and waved at him until she lost the view of his car, as it disappeared into the thick darkness.
Next day morning, Khushi left for Payal's place, as it was her mehendi ceremony. Khushi was wearing a sleeveless churidar of grey and brown colour (http://sareez.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/34sl403c_m_salwar.jpg), which enhanced her petite figure well. Her hair was curled at the lower end and two short tresses of hair was left in front. Her neck was adorned by a simple necklace that had a golden pendant with a brown topaz (http://www.roxburyjewelry.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5   fb8d27136e95/n/0/n001299_2.jpg). She had worn simple brown earrings to match with her outfit (http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.5051706936854504&pid=15.1). Khushi was glad that she was able to attend Payal's wedding ceremonies, as these days she didn't have much work to do. Mehendi ceremony went on full swing. Khushi had a wonderful time dancing, singing, chatting and teasing Payal. Payal had already done her mehndi and she was insisting Khushi to do it as well. Khushi first hesitated to apply mehndi on her hands, but she couldn't say no to her friend. So she agreed. Finally Khushi's hands were adorned by a simple mehndi pattern.
It was around 4pm and she heard her mobile ring. The call was form Arnav.
"Hey", Khushi said in a cheerful tone.
"Hey, why are you in a cheerful mood?", Arnav asked, as he was curious to know what Khushi was doing right now.
"Why? Can't I be cheerful? Anyway I'm at Payal's mehndi ceremony. And guess what, I applied mehndi on my hands as well. And that too for the first time", Khushi said in a joyful tone.
"Really, that's great", Arnav said.
"Wish there was a way for you to see my hands right now", Khushi said in a low tone.
"Well, you can click a photo and send it right away", Arnav said, giving the perfect solution for Khushi's problem.
"I was talking about seeing it for real. Anyway, it's okay. By the way, why did you call?", Khushi asked, as she wanted to know why Arnav called.
"What kind of a question is that? Do I need a reason to call my fiancee? What kind of a girl are you, hah?", Arnav said in a teasing tone.
"Sorry, I didn't mean that. It was just that, all this is new for me. That's why?", Khushi said in an apologetic tone.
"I was kidding. Leave all that. When will you go home?", Arnav asked.
"I will leave in another half an hour. Why?", Khushi asked.
"Nothing. I'll just call you when you go home then", Arnav said.
"Okay then, bye", Khushi answered.
"Bye", Arnav hung up the phone with a smirk on his face.
It was around 5.30pm when Khushi finally arrived home. She was dead tired after helping Payal's Buaji with cleaning the house. She went straight away to the kitchen as she was feeling hungry.
"Rama, can I have something to eat?", Khushi asked.
"Oh Didi, you came. Yeah, there is samosa in that dish", Rama said, pointing towards the dish.
"Why samosa? Not that I'm complaining or anything. I mean is Chachu, Chachi or Lavanya home?", Khushi asked, because as far as she knew Rama and herself were the only people who were at home right now.
"Oh no Didi. There is a surprise guest in your room right now. I couldn't keep the guest waiting for you in an empty stomach, could I?", Rama said teasingly.
"But who?", Khushi asked enthusiastically.
"Go and check. Else it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?", Rama said chuckling.
"Rama, you are becoming too much nowadays", Khushi said laughing and went towards her room.
While going upstairs Khushi felt that the surprise guest may be Arnav, but she shook her thoughts away, as he had called her and told before that he would call her when she was at home. Khushi opened the door to her room and was surprised to see Arnav in there.
"Arnav, what the hell are you doing here?", Khushi asked in surprise.
"Why, didn't you like my surprise visit? Now don't start scolding me saying that it's not right to be in a girl's room, etc", Arnav said in a teasing tone.
"No, I want even start that, because it seems to be useless these days. But why are you suddenly here?", Khushi asked curiously.
"Look who is asking? I thought you wanted to show your mehndi to me?", Arnav asked with a questioning look.
"Oh yeah, see", Khushi said with joy. She looked like a baby who was showing her first painting to her parents. Arnav smiled at her childish antiques. She was surely one of a kind. Her eyes were sparkling with joy right now and he complimented her beautiful hands this time by placing a kiss on the tip of her fingers.
"Beautiful", he said in his husky tone.
Khushi was in utter shock by Arnav's gesture, but she felt her heart flip with joy, when his lips touched her fingertips. Arnav didn't know why he did it, but he knew she deserved it. After all, these days he seemed to be doing lots of things without knowing the reason for doing them.
Khushi was feeling a little awkward now and she tried to look everywhere, except in to Arnav's molten brown eyes. Arnav felt that Khushi was feeling awkward, so he thought of distracting her and letting her know the other reason he came to see her.
"Khushi, I have to tell you something", Arnav said softly.
Khushi now looked straight into his eyes, with her questioning eyes.
"Actually, tomorrow night I will be leaving to London. Next whole week I will be there. There is a fashion show and that's why I have been busy all these days. I wanted to tell this yesterday, but all the enjoyable moments we spent yesterday, made me forget this", Arnav said, hoping that Khushi would understand.
The smile on Khushi's face disappeared in an instant. She didn't know why, but she felt as she was going to be all alone again. Yeah, it was true that it had been only two days since their engagement, but she felt as she was going to lose him if he went away now. But she knew what work meant for Arnav, so she thought of supporting him without making a fuss.
"One week? Wow. That's quite a long time", Khushi said, faking a smile on her face.
Arnav knew Khushi was hiding her feelings, because he knew that was what she was good at. He knew that she was pretending to be fine, because she didn't want to trouble him. Khushi was now looking down, and he could feel that her precious tears were about to flow down her angelic face. Arnav cupped her face and made her look into his eyes.
"I'm sorry Khushi. I wish I could send someone else or take you with me. But I can't, because this is one of the important events of the year. Hope you will understand", Arnav said, trying to calm her down.
Khushi touched his hands and said what she was truly feeling. "It's okay Arnav. I don't know why I'm crying now. It's not like you are leaving me forever or anything. It's just that, I will miss you".
"Hey, don't even think of saying that ever. I'm not going to leave you forever. When I agreed for this relationship, I promised to myself that I will be with you forever. It's just a matter of seven days. I'm sure Payal's wedding preparations will keep you occupied. And I know you. You won't even remember me, when you are with you friend" Arnav said jovially, as he wanted to lighten her mood.
"Arnav", Khushi said hitting him on his arm. Khushi felt relieved after what he said. A small smile appeared at the corner of her lips.
"See, that's my girl. Look, I will call you everyday. Although it will be difficult to here your constant chattering, I'm sure I can do that much for you", Arnav said with a wink.
"Good, you should. Because you should train yourself to bear my constant chattering in the future, as I will be around you 24x7", Khushi said in anger.
"Wow, so you thought about our future as well. Not bad", Arnav said with his exclusive smirk on his face.
Suddenly they heard the sound of an engine downstairs. Khushi realized that it was her Chachu and Chachi. Arnav realized that it was time for him to leave.
He could see that Khushi's face was now looking like a withered flower. He didn't want to leave seeing her face like this, but he didn't know what could cheer her up right now. So he gently slid his hands around her waist and pulled her towards him. Khushi didn't know what Arnav was going to do next, but she felt warmth and comfort near him. She closed her eyes and tried to enjoy these few moments before he would leave her. Arnav saw that Khushi was enjoying the moment, so without taking further time, he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Arnav's this gesture was enough for Khushi to realize that, though he would be far away from her, he would be always there for her. Khushi opened her eyes slowly, as she felt Arnav withdrawing his hands slowly from her waist. Arnav could see that Khushi rosy cheeks were now slightly turning to red. Her face was now looking like a blooming flower in the morning under the glowing sun. He could see her eyes were sparkling with hope. Hope of him being there for her always.
"Thank god. I was so worried that I will have to remember my fiancee's dry face, for the next week. But I'm glad that god took pity on me, and changed your mood. Now I will remember this angelic face", Arnav said smiling. Arnav wished her good bye and left a blushing Khushi standing all alone within the four walls.
Will Payal's marriage preparations, help Khushi to forget how much she misses Arnav? Will Arnav miss Khushi to the same extent as Khushi missed Arnav? Will Lavanya try to create insecurities in Khushi's mind, as Arnav was now out of the country?

Chapter 18

Chapter 18 - Their First Date

After dinner Khushi retired to her room and was reliving the memorable moments of her engagement. She was feeling so lucky today, to have found a good life partner in Arnav. Although Arnav had tried his very best to make Khushi feel not guilty of accepting the wonderful gift, it was useless. She wondered how she had forgotten to buy an engagement gift for Arnav. She so wanted to gift something, but she didn't know what. She was clueless about Arnav's likes and dislikes. Khushi put her creative mind to use and made herself get lost in the thoughts, hoping that she would be able to think of a perfect gift for her fiance.
Next day after the engagement, Arnav was so engrossed in work, that he had already lost track of time. He had to recheck the final preparations of a fashion show which will be held in UK the following week. To say he was the busiest person alive on earth wouldn't be wrong. He had even skipped his lunch today, and he could here the rumbling sound of his stomach. It was nearly 6pm and he heard a knock on his cabin door.
"Who is it?", Arnav asked a little worriedly, as he was planning to leave the office in 30 minutes. But now he would be delayed again.
"It's me, Khushi", Khushi said in her sweet tone.
"Come in", Arnav said a little relieved that it was his fiancee and not any other employee.
"Hi, what are you doing here?", Arnav asked as he was surprised of Khushi's sudden visit.
"Actually, I wanted to meet you", Khushi said nervously.
"Is it something important? Because right now, I'm really busy", Arnav said while continuing his work on the laptop. Khushi felt a little disappointed by Arnav's reply.
"Oh I'm sorry. But can you at least take a minute off. I need to show you something", Khushi said, hoping that Arnav would at least be bothered to know what she was about to talk about.
"Look Khushi, I said nah, I'm really busy right now. Unless it is really something important, I hope you can wait until I call you after going home", Arnav muttered without thinking.
Khushi got angry by the way Arnav was responding, and spitted out. "You thought I would come all the way to the office, unless it was something important. You know what, damn your work. I was the idiot to think that you would even waste a second to listen to your fiancee. I'm sorry Mr.Raizada for disturbing your important work. Bye".
Khushi didn't bother to give a chance for Arnav to explain. Without wasting a second of Arnav's precious time, Khushi left the cabin.
Arnav was astonished at the way how Khushi suddenly broke out at him with anger. He felt that the way he talked to Khushi was wrong. But what could he do. He was under so much of stress about  the upcoming show, and to top it all his stomach worms were playing kick boxing. "What was so important that she came all the way to his office?", Arnav now gave it a thought as to why Khushi came to the office suddenly.
Khushi was furious at the way Arnav ignored her. If he was Arnav Singh Raizada, she was Khushi Gupta. She would not let this go off so easily. As Khushi was pissed off at Arnav, as soon as she came home, Khushi went to the kitchen. She took all the ingredients required to make "jalebi", her all time favourite comfort food. Rama saw that her Khushi Didi was angry. Although she wanted to know what the reason was, she knew this was not the right time. When Khushi was angry, the best thing to do was to let her calm down by herself.
Mona was relaxing herself in the living room, when she heard the sound of the door bell.
"Rama!!!!!!!!!!! Check whose at the door", Mona shouted.
Rama came running and opened the door. She opened her mouth in an "O"shape, as she was shocked to see the person who was standing in front of her.
"Who is it Rama?", Mona came towards the door, as she didn't get any response from Rama.
"Oh, Arnav Beta. Come in. Why are you standing outside?", Mona said politely.
Arnav entered the house and started to search for the person who was responsible to make him visit this house today. But she was nowhere to be seen. As soon as Arnav realized that he had done wrong by ignoring Khushi, he thought of apologizing to her. He tried calling her mobile for several times, but it straight away went to voice mail. So he thought of visiting Khushi's place and clearing the tension filled air between them.
"Auntie, where is Khushi?", Arnav asked from Mona.
"Khushi Didi is in the kitchen. She is making jalebi. Seems like she is comforting herself with her all time favourite comfort food. Someone must have really pissed her off", Rama continued as she was unaware of Mona's glare. Suddenly Rama realized that she had made the owner of the house angry. So she shut herself up.
"Why Arnav? Do you want to meet her?", Mona asked.
Arnav nodded his head, indicating a "yes".
"Rama, go and call Khushi. Tell her that Arnav has come to meet her", Mona ordered Rama.
Rama agreed and went in search of Khushi.
At first Khushi hesitated a bit, but she didn't want to let everybody in the house aware that she was angry with Arnav. So she thought of pretending to show that everything was fine between them.
Arnav saw Khushi coming towards him. He was glad that she at least agreed to meet him, without making a big fuss. But he felt that she was burning from inside, as he sensed there was smoke puffing out from her ears and nostrils. He smiled from his mind and he knew he had to try his ASR ways to make her go out with him. Yes, as soon as he realized that Khushi was upset with him, he thought the best way to make up to her was by taking her out for a dinner. In that way he would be able to get to know what was the important thing Khushi wanted to show him and also he would be able to relieve his hunger.
"Auntie, can I take Khushi outside for a dinner out today?", Arnav asked in a polite tone.
Khushi was surprised at Arnav's sudden notion. He really knew the way to make things be done according to his own accord. Khushi knew that she would have to agree to go out with him. But she made up her mind to not to give in so easily.
"Yeah sure, Beta. Khushi, go and get ready soon", Mona said to Khushi firmly.
"Ji Chachi", Khushi said, and left toward her room giving an angry stare at Arnav.
After sometime Khushi was fully ready. She had made her self comfortable wearing a black short shift dress (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/608882091_1/2012-DN242-KM-black-red-wholesale-designer-evening-free-shipping-Short-shift-dress-elaborate-metallic-beaded.jpg) and her hair was left open. She didn't want to look overdressed, although this would be their first date. She was excited, but she didn't want to show it either, as she didn't want to easily forgive him. Khushi descended down the stairs and Arnav was once again mesmerized by Khushi's beauty. It was true that she didn't wear all grand outfits, or heavy make up, but yet she looked stunning. Her open hair and and the pair of stud earrings (http://www.designerfashionjewellery.net/ekmps/shops/designf/images/black-white-diamond-white-gold-designer-stud-earrings-154-p.jpg) intensified the elegant look on her face. His gaze stopped on both her wrists. On one wrist she had worn a simple bracelet (http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4849946567641498&pid=15.1), which matched her outfit. When he saw the other wrist being adorned by the wrist watch gifted by him, he felt his heart fill with joy. Khushi realized what made Arnav's smile on his face reach the eyes. She was glad to see him happy, but she was yet not convinced to forgive him.
Both Arnav and Khushi bid good bye to Mona and left. The drive was silent as Khushi was still angry and Arnav didn't try to force a conversation as he didn't want to make her all furious again.
As soon as their journey came to an end, Khushi looked out the shutter. It was the best Chinese restaurant in town. She was so glad that Arnav had brought her to a restaurant  where they served her favourite dishes. Khushi was a Chinese food fan. But how did Arnav find that out?
They went in and the receptionist greeted both of them. A young man in early thirties came to Arnav and said, "Good evening ASR, after such a long time".
Arnav smiled and said, "Yep. Oh by the way this is Khushi, my fiancee".
Khushi said "Hello", with a sweet smile.
"Your table for two is ready. Please come", said the young man.
It was a quite cozy place. Khushi felt that this place had a romantic atmosphere, as there were so many couples around. She made herself comfortable by sitting down on the chair drawn by Arnav. She thanked him. Arnav excused and left Khushi for a while, alone. Khushi really wanted to forgive Arnav, but she still didn't want to. Because she wanted him to know, that he can't expect her to behave according to the way he wanted. Yeah, may be he was busy, but still he should have not ignored her.
The sudden ring of a mobile phone, made her gasp a little. It was Arnav's phone. He had forgotten and left his phone on the table. Khushi checked the caller ID and saw it was Aman. Therefore she thought of answering.
"Hello Sir", Aman said softly.
Khushi could feel the fear Aman had towards his boss.
"Hey Aman, it's Khushi", Khushi said in her chirpy voice.
"Oh hi Khushi, I mean Madam. Is Arnav Sir around? Aman asked in a relaxed tone, after realizing it was Khushi answering the phone.
"He is not here right now. What is it? Do you want to give him a message?", Khushi asked.
"No, no, Madam. It's just that I was worried since Arnav Sir didn't have anything since breakfast. I just wanted to check whether he ate", Aman said worriedly.
"Kya? You mean he didn't have lunch today? But why?", Khushi asked in shock and worry.
"He was so busy, that he had lost track of time", Aman explained.
"Don't worry Aman, I will make sure he eats. I'm glad that your his personal assistant. You really deserve a praise. But you should stop calling me Madam. I'm just Khushi, your fiancee's friend", Khushi said nicely.
"Thanks Khushi. I'm glad he has you now to take care of him. Okay then, bye", Aman said.
"Bye", Khushi said while ending the call.
Khushi was now feeling sorry for Arnav. How can he neglect his diet for wor? Seriously did he think work is more important than food? She felt that she was wrong to burst out at him without knowing his condition. He must have been stressed out at that time and to top it all, he was in an empty stomach. No wonder that he responded to her in that manner. She saw Arnav coming towards the table, so she calmed herself down.
"Sorry, I had to meet the manager. So Khushi what do you want to eat?", Arnav asked nicely.
Both of them gave their orders to the waiter who was standing near them. After dismissing the waiter, Arnav thought of starting the conversation, as he didn't want to spend the rest of the evening silent.
"Khushi I'm really sorry for ignoring you. It was just that, you know me, right? I never can neglect work", Arnav said apologetically.
"So you can neglect everything for work?", Khushi said firmly.
"No, I don't mean that. I'm still getting used to the fact that you have entered my life. My family have understood me by now. But since you are not familiar with my lifestyle, I should have been more considerate. I'm really sorry", Arnav said, hoping that Khushi would forgive at least now.
"You know Arnav, work is not life. I agree you need money to live. And to earn money you should work hard. But how can you be successful in working in the future, if you neglect about your health?", Arnav now knew that Khushi was informed about him skipping his lunch.
"I know Arnav you were stressed out that time and to top it all, you were in an empty stomach. But you should have at least explained to me the situation and I would have understood", Khushi tried explaining to Arnav about his mistake.
"I know Khushi. I will try not to let it happen again", Arnav said indicating that he had realized his mistake.
"I hope you will keep your word. And never you dare to skip a meal. Else I will tell Di", Khushi threatened Arnav.
"Oh my god. All this time I had to deal with Di and now you too have started. Great. But please don't tell Di. Because she is far more worse than you", Arnav said teasingly.
"How do you know that I'm easier to deal with?", Khushi asked raising an eyebrow.
"Oh please, look at you. One dinner and you have forgiven me", Arnav said with a wink.
"What the... Do you want me to get back to the earlier mood?", Khushi said a little angrily.
"Uffo Khushi, I was kidding. You are surely suitable for the role of Mrs.Raizada", Arnav said with his exclusive smirk on his face. He was amazed to see the rosy cheeks of Khushi now turning slightly in to red, as she was blushing.
The waiter had now arrived with food. After serving themselves the delicacies laid in front of them, they started to enjoy the meal. The food was delicious. Khushi was really enjoying the meal. Arnav was finally glad that his stomach was no longer empty. They silently enjoyed the meal, as they were both hungry.
By the time the desert arrived, both were enjoying each others company. They were talking about their likes and dislikes and Khushi as usual had started to blabber about the wonderful memories of her childhood. Arnav was surprised thinking, "How could a girl talk this much?".
Khushi had suddenly realized that Arnav was staring at her with utmost surprise.
"What?", Khushi asked.
"Nothing. It's just that, don't you ever feel tired of talking so much? I mean leave yourself aside, what about the person who is listening to all your chattering? Don't you feel sorry for him?", Arnav asked sarcastically.
"I don't care. This is my way. Either you accept the way I am or just find another girl", Khushi said without thinking. Later she realized that what she said had made Arnav's smile drop.
"I'm sorry Arnav, I didn't mean to...", Khushi said in an apologetic tone.
"It's okay Khushi. Lets go. It's getting late", Arnav said, trying to hide what he felt with those words.
They left the restaurant and was now driving towards Khushi's house. Khushi felt awkward with the silence that was surrounding them. She couldn't wait anymore, as she knew that he was hurt. But she didn't know how to handle the situation right now, so she thought of reducing the tension between them.
"Arnav, how did you get to know that I loved Chinese?" Khushi asked, as she was curious to know how he had found about her favourite type of meal.
"Just the way you got to know that I skipped the meal. I asked Aman to ask Payal. It only took 10 minutes to find out that you loved Chinese", Arnav said, trying to forget about Khushi's previous words.
Although he didn't love Khushi, he knew that any other girl wouldn't be the perfect match for him. In these few days of their relationship, they had shared a lot of feelings, including joy, anger, sorrow, guilt, regret, etc. If they weren't the perfect match, they wouldn't have been where they were right now. That's why he felt a little hurt with Khushi's words.
As soon as Khushi's house came to his view, he remembered that Khushi had something important to show to him. Well, that important thing was what led them to go out on their first date at the first place. So he thought of bringing it up, before saying good bye to her. He applied the brakes in front of the house.
"Khushi, what was the important thing you wanted to show, when you came to meet me today?", Arnav asked enthusiastically.
"Oh shit!!!!!!!!! I totally forgot. Wait right here, I'll be back", Khushi said hurriedly as she opened the door.
"But Khushi...", Arnav's words were lost to the thin air around, as he saw Khushi's figure disappear as she entered the house.
What would be Khushi's first gift for Arnav? What will Khushi feel when she would get to know that Arnav will be leaving to UK for a week? Will helping with Payal's marriage preparations help Khushi to forget, that Arnav was out of the country?

Chapter 17

Chapter 17 - The Gift

It's been a week since Khushi got to know the truth about Arnav's past. And today was their engagement day. For the past week Arnav has been busy with office work and Khushi's been busy with engagement preparations. They barely got time to talk to each other. For Khushi's amazement, Lavanya had not tried to hurt her feelings during this week. So finally the Gupta house was decorated in a glamorous manner. As usual Gupta's wanted to impress the whole world, as their only daughter was going to marry the elder son of Raizada house. So decorations were a little too much as usual, but it was perfect.
By now, all the guests had arrived and the Raizada's were present, except for Arnav. Akash was eager to see her fiancee and so was Arush to see her new mom-to-be all dressed up. Suddenly everybody looked at the stairs and saw Lavanya descending the stairs. She looked classy and elegant at the same time. Her hot pink lehenga (http://worlduks.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Neha-Dalvi-Bridal-pink-saree-trends-2012.jpg) clearly seemed to be intensifying her beauty. Her hair was done in a messy bun and the curls grazed her swan like neck.
Finally after she arrived near Akash, Arush came running towards her step mom-to-be.
"Wow Mumma-to-be, you look really beautiful today", Arush said in a soft, cute tone.
Lavanya bent to Arush and placed a kiss on his cheeks and said, "Thanks my step son-to-be".
They both smiled at each other. Akash was glad to see his son finally ready to accept Lavanya as his new mom. Although Akash had invited Chaya's parents for his engagement, they had still not been able to get over their daughter's loss. So they had declined the invitation.
Anjali was worried as her Chotte had not arrived yet. She tried calling Arnav's phone, but it went straight to voice-mail. She knew that Arnav was ready for marriage, but she still had a small doubt whether he would show up or not.
Everybody was praising Lavanya's beauty, when their whispers were stopped by seeing the other beauty who was now cascading the stairs. It was Khushi, and she was accompanied by Payal. Khushi was already feeling nervous, so she felt herself shivering a bit. All the guests eyes were on the adopted daughter of Gupta's. Unlike Lavanya, she had her own natural beauty. Lavanya was fuming as she could sense that everybody were now dumbstruck by Khushi's beauty. But she tried to calm herself by thinking, it was only a matter of time before she would become Khushi's elder sister-in-law.
Khushi's eyes searched for Arnav, but she realized that he hadn't arrived yet. She felt a little depressed and this was noticed by Anjali, as she could see Khushi's distressed eyes. Anjali tried to call Arnav again, but it was of no use. The auspicious time was getting closer, and still Arnav was not to be seen. Everybody were now getting anxious to know, as to why Arnav Singh Raizada, the person who was always punctual, was late on his own engagement day. People started to gossip saying, that he might be having second thoughts, etc. Khushi was now feeling down, as she felt maybe the guests were right. But somewhere in her heart she knew, the man she had got to know in the past few days would not abandon her like this. So she tried to make her head strong, and hoped her Devi Maiyya would give her helping hand today. Just as if her prayers were heard, she heard the voice she was longing to hear all this time. It was Arnav.
"Sorry Di, I saw your calls, but I didn't want to be late by answering your calls. It was a business emergency", Arnav said jovially, as he knew his sister wouldn't spare him for being late today.
"Really Chotte, stop giving excuses for not answering my calls. Apologize to Khushi. You have made her go through hell  just few moments before", Anjali said, in a strict tone.
"Nahi Di,  it's okay. I know how much work is important for him. What's important is that he came at the right time. After all the Great ASR is never late, right?", Khushi said in a teasing manner, hoping that it would clear the tension around. All the guests laughed.
"Arre wah!!!!!!!! Arnav your fiancee is such a forgiving person, but not me. Apologize to her", Anjali said to Arnav, while pinching Arnav's ear.
"Ouch Di!!!!!!!! You know, you really should cut your witch like nails. But if saying sorry to Khushi helps you to get out of your anger, here you go. I'm really sorry Khushi", Arnav said with a smirk.
Lavanya had enough of all the crap. She was supposed to get the spotlight, not Khushi. So she thought of deviating the guests attention from all the crap being shown by Anjali.
"Everyone, I think the auspicious time is really close", Lavanya said.
"Oh yes. Come on let's go", Anjali said.
Both couples were ready for the ritual of exchanging rings. Akash's and Lavanya's rings were with Manorama and Mona. Arnav and Khushi's rings were with Anjali and Payal. Lavanya was restless as she wanted to become a Raizada bahu as fast as possible. As for Khushi, she was nervous and she could feel goosebumps on her skin. Arnav had clearly noticed Khushi's nervousness, so he held her hand and squeezed it hoping to calm her nerves. He realized that his effort was successful, as an amazing smile appeared on Khushi's face. As there were few minutes left for the ritual, everybody were excited. Arnav's eyes surveyed every nook and corner in the house and he realized that his best buddy was not present.
"Di didn't Rahul come?", Arnav asked a little sadly.
"Oh yes, where is he? I thought he might have told you why he was not coming today. May be he had some important personal thing to attend to", Anjali said as she was clueless of what happened between Arnav and Rahul.
It was time and it was the moment everyone was waiting for. The exchanging of rings. First the ladies made their fiances wear the ring. Khushi smoothly slipped a golden ring (http://www.olive-reg.com/images/2011/12/GR-CD-C5MM-Y-1-fairtrade-gold-ring.jpg) in Arnav's right hand ring finger. Everybody clapped and it was now Arnav's turn to adorn Khushi's left hand ring finger with a ring. He took the ring handed over by Anjali and gently slipped it in Khushi's finger. The ring (http://saveonlinestore.com/save-online-shopping-store-engagement-ring-14k-Heart-engagement.jpg) was simple but adorable. It had two hearts which clearly signified the binding of two hearts on this special day. At the end of the ritual, everybody clapped and extended their heartfelt wishes to both couples.
"Arnav", Arnav turned as he heard the familiar voice. It was Rahul.
"Hey Rahul, I thought you wouldn't come", Arnav said a little worried. There was no one around, except for Arnav, Khushi and Rahul. Khushi was surprised to see Rahul here today, but she was truly glad.
"Didn't I say that I would be there with you in every occasion. After all I have to get some experience about these stuff, right? I will also have to get married one day you know?", Rahul  said with a wink.
"Well, well, look who is talking", Arnav said in a teasing tone.
"Look Arnav, I'm sorry for the way I talked to Khushi that day. I didn't mean to be rude. You know me nah? I always talk without thinking, unlike you. I'm really sorry dude. Hope you can forgive me", Rahul said in an apologetic tone. Arnav felt that Rahul was really regretting the way he behaved with Khushi. So he thought of forgiving him.
"Fine, on one condition. You should accept Khushi as your Babhi and I need you to apologize to her", Arnav said seriously.
"Okay, no problem", Rahul said calmly. He shifted his eyes towards Khushi and said, "I'm really sorry Khushi, I really didn't mean to hurt you. It was just that I was hurt by the truth. Normally girls are ready to die for both Arnav and me. But when you said no to me that day, I felt like a rejected good. I was truly hurt. Then when I got to know after some days that you were ready to marry Arnav, I thought you lied to me. I thought that you had a real crush towards Arnav or something like that. But that day when Arnav said that you were doing this marriage for both of your families happiness, I really felt glad that my friend had got the life partner he deserved. You know what, I felt as if you both are made for each other, because you both are ready to sacrifice your lives for you families happiness. So I'm really sorry for everything I have done to hurt you Khushi. Hope you can forgive me".
"Wow Rahul, you think I would forgive you so easily?", Khushi asked in a harsh tone.
Both Rahul and Arnav were surprised at Khushi's reaction. Seeing the two friends expressions, Khushi started to chuckle.
"Haha... you both should see your faces from a mirror right now. Come on, there's nothing to forgive Rahul. I really didn't mean to hurt you that day. I just said what I needed to say hoping that you wouldn't misunderstand the situation. Anyway, what happened has happened. Since you and Arnav are already best buddies, I'm sure that we both can be best buddies as well, right?", Khushi said, extending her hand in hope of a handshake.
"Of course,  why not? After all I'm sure I will find a more better friend in you, than in Arnav", Rahul said while shaking Khushi's hand.
"Since she is you best friend now, I guess our partnership is not required anymore???', Arnav said with a smirk.
"Oh buddy!!!!!!!!!! You were, you are and you will be my best friend, until I find my better half", Rahul said while cracking a joke and embracing Arnav in a tight hug. Three of them burst out laughing.

"Congratulations to both of you", Rahul said, sincerely hoping that these two amazing people will be able to be happy in their entire lives.
Everybody were having a wonderful time. Khushi was busy helping Rama with serving the guests. Suddenly Mona called Khushi and asked her to bring the gifts that were supposed to be gifted to the Raizada's. Last night Khushi had done all the wrapping, so they were left in her room. So Khushi went upstairs to her room.
As Khushi was busy with serving, she hadn't realized that one important person was missing downstairs. It was Arnav. Khushi went in her room, took the gifts that were on her bed and turned around to leave. But she was surprised with shock when she saw Arnav in her room. Arnav locked the door from inside and took slow steps towards her.
Among the earlier chaos downstairs, Arnav had not been able to realize how alluring his fiancee was today. She looked breathtaking. Although she had chosen an off-white lehenga, it made her look graceful. She looked like a real angle today. Her attire (http://celebstreetfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/aishwarya-rai-in-sexy-lehenga-by-manish-malhotra.jpg) was simple, yet ravishing. Lower part of her hair was left in curls and this gave her an innocent and childish look. The use of the eye-liner, gave her eyes a prominent look today. Her inner thoughts were clearly visible through her eyes. Her ears and her creamy white neck was adorned by a charming gold diamond necklace and a pair of matching earrings (http://www.jewelry4us.com/IndianGoldJewellery/image/cache/data/DJN010-1025x768.jpg). Her outlook was more beautified by the two pairs of diamond bangles (http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4586450361778499&pid=15.1) she had worn today. To say she looked beautiful would be an understatement, today she looked exquisite.
Khushi was now feeling a little awkward for many reasons. First her fiance was in her room, for her greatest surprise. Never in her life had a guy entered her room before. Secondly, Arnav had locked the door, and she did not expect this from him. Thirdly, he looked like a Greek god today. Yes, he was dressed in a three piece suit as usual, but there was something about him today that made her feel more attracted towards him. His molten brown eyes were clearly speaking on his behalf right now, and she realized that he was admiring her beauty silently. At the thought of him admiring her, she could feel her heart skip few beats and by now the pace of her heart was following a crescendo. She was lost in his eyes that were sparkling with desire, that she almost forgot that she was holding the gifts.
Thanks to Arnav, Khushi was saved by another bashing, which she would have had experienced from her Chachi if she dropped the gifts. He had now kept the gifts safely on the bed and was standing in front of Khushi, where there was a very small distance between them.
"Well, well, Khushi. I'm sure you don't want to hear an earful like last week, do you?", Arnav said in a sarcastic tone.
Khushi narrowed her eyes and said in anger, "Last week also I heard an earful becasue of you, today also it would have been because of you. What are you doing in a girl's room?",
"Wow, so much anger? And that too at your fiance. Nah, don't you think it's not nice? Anyway, this is not any girl's room, this is my fiancee's room. So I don't see anything wrong in that", Arnav said with his unique smirk.
"Look Arnav, if Chachi found out that you are here, what will she think? You should go now and I have to go downstairs as well", Khushi said with nervousness.
"So the problem is with Chachi, right? Not you? You don't want me to leave?", Arnav said teasingly.
"Arnav stop flirting. Just leave", Khushi said in a pleading tone.
"Anyway what are you doing here?", Khushi asked as she wanted to know what Arnav was doing in her room.
"I thought you would have been upset with me for being late today. So I wanted to apologize", Arnav said in an apologetic tone.
"Oh, you got the deserved punishment from Di, so I guess that's enough. Anyway you came today and that's all that matters", Khushi said with a smile.
"Really, aren't you least curious to know why I got late?", Arnav asked.
"No, why should I? I mean I know that business is like food for you. So you must have had an emergency meeting with a client, right? What's new about it?", Khushi said in a cool tone.
"Hmmm, yeah it was an emergency situation, but not with a client. Actually, it was really difficult than handling a client", Arnav said.
Khushi didn't understand what Arnav was saying, so she asked, "What are you trying to say Arnav?".
"I got late because I had to buy an engagement gift for you. Actually this would be my first gift for you, right? So I wanted it to be special. Since I'm not good at choosing gifts and also since I had no idea what you liked, I thought of buying something that would remind you of our first meeting", Arnav continued telling Khushi what he was up to.
When Khushi heard Arnav saying "First GIft", she felt her heart flipping thousand times with joy. She never imagined that Arnav could be so thoughtful. Arnav saw that Khushi's angelic smile had reached her eyes, and now her eyes were sparkling with delight.
Arnav took out a gift box and opened it. It was a diamond designer watch (http://www.umekobeautyfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Designer-watches-for-women-with-diamond.jpg). Khushi couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was a real piece of artistry.
" Do you remember our first encounter, Khushi? Remember the way you got late? I will never forget that girl who was humble enough to accept that she did a mistake by being late and the way she apologized without any hesitation. That was why I was impressed by you at the first place. This watch is a symbol of that meeting. Every time you wear this and check the time, you will remember our first meeting", Arnav said in a grateful tone.
"Wow Arnav, this is amazing. How thoughtful of you? I really love your gift", Khushi thanked while wearing it on her hand.
Arnav was glad to see Khushi acting like a child who had got b'day gifts from her loved ones. But he got worried when he saw Khushi taking off the watch and was now giving it back to him.
Khushi looked at Arnav's questioning face and said, "I don't deserve to be the owner of this gift Arnav. I didn't at least remember to buy you a gift. What have I done to get a such wonderful gift at the first place? I don't want it Arnav, I can't take it".
Khushi's eyes were filled with guilt and Arnav was moved by Khushi's thoughts. How can a girl be so innocent? Why did God take away happiness from this wonderful girl? What wrong had she done to lose her parents at such a small age? No, I won't let this happen to her. She is my responsibility now, and I will make her happy in however possible way I can.
Arnav looked straight in to Khushi's eyes and said, "This is nothing compared to what you did for me and my family Khushi. I mean, all the girls I have known throughout my life wanted me for my looks, money or status. But you only wanted to see the happiness of my family, especially my Di. You sacrificed your life for my Di's happiness. And my Di's happiness is the biggest gift you can give to me. So you deserve this, Khushi".
Arnav slowly took Khushi's hand and made Khushi wear the watch. They were lost in each others eyes, trying to figure out how lucky they were to have each other. Khushi couldn't explain the emotions she was feeling today for Arnav. The only thing she thought was, how could someone be heartless to break the heart of such a wonderful person?
Khushi is about to get busy with Payal's wedding preparations. Will Arnav miss Khushi? Will they become more closer during these days?
Chapter 16 - Bitter Truth

Arnav was now standing in front of Khushi and there was only a small gap between them. Khushi was relieved to see anger in his eyes being replaced by pain .
"You really want to know what happened. Fine, then listen", Arnav said in a harsh tone.
"I was in my 3rd year in the university at that time. As you know, I didn't have many friends. It was not that I hated to interact with them, I just didn't feel the need to. But if someone came and asked for help, I would help that person somehow. I really loved to be alone. Also I was popular in the campus as the most hot-tempered guy. Not only that, I was famous as an all-rounder as well. I was good at studies, basketball, tennis, playing drums, organizing events, swimming, etc. So all the lecturers loved me. Not only the lecturers, all the girls were crazy over me. But I knew all of them loved me for my looks, my money and status. Guys were different. They hated my guts and they were jealous of me because their girls were drooling over me 24x7. But I had one close friend. That was Rahul. We knew each other since I started university. He was the Dean's son. Although his father was the Dean, he was a down-to-earth kid. He was quite different than me. Actually he was quite similar to you. But we became good friends and we were inseparable. He was not as bright as me, but he was never jealous of me. Time went by, and one day a new girl arrived at our uni. She was modern, but she behaved well unlike other spoiled rich girls. Frankly speaking she was just like me. She also loved to be alone. She didn't have many friends, because girls were jealous of her. We both were in the class, but never did we talk a word with each other. One day I was walking to the library, when I heard a loud cry from nearby. Then I realized the cry came from the stairs. I ran towards the stairs and so the new girl had fallen. She seemed to be in excruciating pain. I went to her and checked her ankle. It was clearly twisted. So I helped her to fix it. She thanked me and introduced herself as Sheetal. Then I introduced myself as well. We shaked hands with each other and that's when I felt an unknown feeling within myself with that touch. I didn't know what it was, but it felt different. We said good bye and left, but never did we think that our introduction would lead us to something wonderful". Arnav kept on telling his story.
"Few weeks went by, and we started to talk with each other. I felt myself to be comfortable around her. We enjoyed each others companionship. We became good friends. We started to sit together in our class, we had lunch together, went to the library together, etc. Even Rahul said that we were the perfect couple. Then he began to tease with me saying about her. As we got closer I got to know that she was a famous businessman's daughter. Her father's business was in UK, but her parents had divorced recently. So her mom and herself returned to India. That's why she joined our uni. After knowing about her family background, I felt myself being slowly attracted towards Sheetal. I didn't want to, but it just happened. Later on I figured out, we were perfect for each other".
"After opening up about our feelings, Sheetal and I decided to see each other as a couple. We were the IT couple in the uni. Everybody wanted to be like us. Because we didn't have any trouble. Our families realized that they were of same status. Although Sheetal was modern, she respected the elders and our customs. She was basically the perfect Bahu any family would wish for. We were a couple for one and half years. By that time, we were deeply in love with each other. I never thought falling in love would be so wonderful. It was like a fairy tale. We couldn't wait without seeing or talking to each other, at least for one day. Then we were about to take our next step in our life. My family and Sheetal's mom wanted us to get engaged. We were over the moon. I wondered how I became so lucky. So the arrangements were made and it was the day of our engagement. Both the families were present, except for my best buddy, Rahul. I tried to call him, but I couldn't reach him. So I had to move on with the rituals, as I didn't have a choice. But just as we were about to exchange rings, Rahul arrived", Arnav said with a firm tone.
"It was then I realized that my perfect love life was not as perfect as I thought was. It was all a lie. Sheetal was just a liar. She was just like the other girls, except the others showed it from outside. Sheetal was all pretending to be the nice girl. Rahul had brought another guy with him. His name was Shyam. Rahul explained Sheetal's plan. Sheetal was in love with Shyam. But Shyam was not from a wealthy family. He was a poor guy. Although Sheetal was from a rich family, her father's money was not enough for them to get married and lead a new life, as her mom and dad were now divorced. Sheetal's mother didn't have enough money as well. So Sheetal knew if she carried out her studies well and got a job, Shyam  and herself would be able to lead a better life. But after the encounter with me, she had found out about everything about my life. Who I was?, Where I lived?, What I do?, everything. Then she saw an easy way out from her problems. So together with her mom and Shyam she laid the perfect plan. She somehow managed to win my heart and made me fall in love with her. And if everything happened according to her plan, she would have married me and later on filed a divorce. But thanks to my friend, her plan failed", Arnav said clenching his fists. Khushi could feel how much pain and anger he was feeling right now. She couldn't watch it any longer, so she came near him and placed her hand on his hand in a soothing manner.
"I couldn't believe myself. I didn't know how I did the mistake of falling in love. After that I never met her. I found out that she had left town. I'm really grateful for Rahul, because he saved me when I was about to drown. My Di was always there to help me survive the aftermath. If it wasn't for her I would not be standing here with you today", Arnav said in a weak tone. Khushi could feel that Arnav was a broken man from inside. She saw Arnav's eyes welling up.
"Khushi, everybody in this world see the arrogant, ruthless, egoistic, hard-built Arnvav Singh Raizada, but from inside I'm just a broken man. My soul is weak and if you actually look in to it, you will see that I'm a more weak person than you are. You know, after what happened in my life, every time when I see a couple I hope that they won't have to experience what I did. Because it hurts Khushi, it hurts a lot. No one will be able to understand that pain, except for the person who suffers from it. I don't hate Sheetal, but I don't feel anything for her as well. Yes, she was my first love and may be my last. But as of for now, love is just an unwanted desire for me", Arnav ended his story, and he felt tears descending down his face. The only woman who had seen him broken till now was his sister, but today there was another woman in his life willing to witness it.
Khushi couldn't bear it any longer, so without thinking any further she embraced Arnav in a warm hug. She didn't know why, but she hoped that by this hug she would be able to share some of the pain he was going through. Arnav was surprised by Khushi's sudden gesture. He tried to resist, but it was useless and therefore he gave in. He hugged her back and he felt as if all his pains were taken away. He didn't know who this girl was, whether she was a guardian from the God or an angel from heaven. But one thing he knew, that she was the other half of his incomplete soul.
The sudden ring of Khushi's phone, made Arnav and Khushi step out of their hug. They didn't realize how long they have been consoling each other, until Khushi's Chachi shouted at her through the phone.
As soon as Khushi received the call from her Chachi, Arnav had decided to drop Khushi as soon as possible, as he knew that she was in trouble. It was nearly 10.30pm. Both of them were starving, but Khushi thought it was best for her to go home as soon as possible. They wished each other good night and Khushi entered her house.
Khushi saw her Chachu and Chachi was about to explode. She knew she was not supposed to come late, but she was out with her fiance, not with any other guy, unlike Lav. Also she told Rama that she would be late.
"Where were you?", Chachi asked in an angry tone.
"Arnav wanted to meet me, so I had to go. But I told Rama that I would be late", Khushi said politely.
"We don't mind you going out, but next time come home at least by 8pm. We don't care what you do, because it's your personal life, but you have to think about our reputation as well", said Rajiv roughly.
"Well, since you both seems to be not bothered about my safety, but about your reputation, where is Lav? Is she home yet? Oh wait, she is in a b'day party in a club, right? Sorry, if I'm being rude, but I don't think I'm the one who is ruining your reputation, it's your own daughter", finally letting out what she felt, Khushi went to her bedroom, saying a soft sorry to her aunt and uncle.
Khushi was in her bedroom, after changing into her night dress. She was thinking about the day's events. The way she enjoyed the conversation with Arnav, how Rahul blamed her for nothing, the joyful moments of shopping, the way Arnav stood up for her, how Arnav opened up to her and most importantly their first hug. Khushi felt a small smile appearing in her face as she remembered the warm embrace. It felt good. And by now she realized that she loved every single moment she spent with her husband-to-be.
Arnav was about to rest as he had a long day. He felt different today. He knew why and he realized it was because of Khushi. All this time only his sister was ready to hear his bitter truth, but today there was this amazing life partner who was ready to share his every sorrow with him. He knew that he won't be able to love her, but he made a promise to himself that he would never let tears come in her eyes intentionally. Because for him, she was an angel sent from heaven by his mom.

Arnav and Khushi's engagement coming up. Will Rahul attend the occasion? If so, will he apologize to Khushi? What would be Arnav's first gift to Khushi?
